HOLY WIND

It never ceases to amaze me that I wear the shortest, flounciest skirt on the days that we have 40 mph wind gusts. Needless to say, I spend much of today holding my skirt in place to avoid indecency.

Anyway, this skirt has been remixed more than I thought it would be. When I bought it I didn't think that pattern would allow much room for play but I was wrong. I even have a few more ideas for it. Pretty good for a $8 skirt, I say.

STORY OF A DRESS

Remember this scarf? Well this dress was its birth mother. I separated them after a very tearful goodbye one day when I felt I had nothing to wear. Unfortunately, I was at Q's house and had neglected to bring the correct undergarments for such an outfit. So the separation was all for naught. It is a very sad story, really.

After wearing this I realized that it truly does need a proper hem job and that taking meat scissors to a dress on your boyfriend's bathroom floor when you're in a hurry does not lead to quality cutting.

And actually, if we want to get technical, this dress is really a skirt and a very long one at that. I thought it would be a cute summer tube dress that I could wear as a maxi skirt if my heart desired. This was before the whole cutting incident, so I'm not sure if the maxi skirt thing will pan out or not. We shall see. Until then I'm sure you all wait with bated breath.

BRILLIANT BLUEBONNETS, PT. 2

Here is the second installment of the great bluebonnet blog take over of 2010. Again, the incredibly awesome lighting makes it very difficult to narrow down the photos. I guess it doesn't hurt the I have such an adorably photogenic child either - I'm not baised, I swear.

I really love how fresh the white looks against the bluebonnets. These pictures signify the beginning of Spring for me. Even though, typically, Spring starts pretty early in Texas - it just doesn't really feel like it until we take bluebonnet pictures. So, I guess Spring has sprung!

BRILLIANT BLUEBONNETS, PT. 1

This post is on the picture heavy side. I couldn't decide which ones to post because the lighting was just insanely amazing and we were able to get so many great shots. I'm going to do the bluebonnet photos in a few different posts, starting with the outfit shots of just me, then the ones of baby girl, and finally the group shots.

Excessive? Probably.

(I love the above shot of me with baby girl playing in the background. Its like, yeah I take pictures of myself everyday, but I really do have a life outside of it - most of the time.)

For those of you who don't know, or don't live in Texas, bluebonnets are the state flower of Texas. They bloom from mid-March to May-ish but are really the best in the last two weeks of April (most years). The bluebonnets are the most wonderful shade of not-quite-blue and not-quite-purple and they smell amazing. We've done bluebonnet pictures each year since I got pregnant in 2007 and, each year, they end up being some of my favorite pictures.

And PS, I entered the Weardrobe Perfectly Pastoral contest with these pictures. If you're a Weardrobe member and you like it, then I'd love for you to heart it. If you're not a Weardrobe
member, then you really should be because it is pretty cool.

SIGNATURES

It is funny how, after taking pictures of yourself for a while, you come to realize that you have your signature poses. I wasn't going to post all of these pictures until I realized that these cemented my feelings about signatures. Holding my hair with my left had in definitely something I do in most of my pictures.

First of all, it is a comfort thing. I rarely know what to do with my hands in general, let alone when taking pictures of myself. If my hands are not doing something then they are probably always in my hair - twisting it, braiding it, tying it in knots (weird, yes). I definitely got this from my mother and, seeing as my baby falls asleep while playing with my hair rather than holding a blankie or such, I think it is safe to say that she got it from me.

Also, it is just plain practicality. It is very windy in Texas and if I didn't hold my hair then it would be in my face for most of my photos. Which, is not exactly what I'm going for most days.
Ah, thus the hand in the hair. And so a signature pose is born, I suppose.

Oh yeah, the outfit. I like it. Boots and dresses are making me happy as of late.

BLUE WITHOUT YOU

Why have I never thought of elastic belts until this one? They are the most comfy thing ever. Not the least bit constricting. I am on the hunt for a dark brown one as well.

I cut this scarf off the bottom of a dress that was too long. I really wanted to wear the dress and had no means of hemming it at the time, so I just cut. I was keeping the extra fabric to wrap around one of my straw fedoras but it makes a perfect lightweight scarf as well.

LETS ESCAPE

I have been waiting for the Eugenia Kim for Target hats for, um, forever. This is the one I had my eye on originally. I am pretty happy with it. It kinda makes me feel like I should be escaping to a tropical destination. Which, would be nice. Unfortunately, I am not escaping and it has barely been sunny enough for me to wear it. Come out sun!

On the other hand, I do not suggest wearing a romper over a pair of pants after a morning that involves lots and lots of coffee. It just spells inconveniences. Oh well. I've yet to actually wear this romper as a romper, I suppose I'm exhausting all other variations before wearing it in its intended way. Soon enough it will be 110 degrees outside and all I will want to put on is this romper, just wait and see ha.

GYPSY WOMEN

This evening BG and I went to my mum's school (she teaches second grade) to participate in Fine Arts Evening and watch the Talent Show. There is always a theme and everyone is encouraged to dress in said theme. This time it was the Renaissance; the school was overrun with kings, queens, princes, princesses, knights, peasants and GYPSIES (!). Guess which one we were?

I figured out the all you have to do in order to be a gypsy is keep layering and put on every piece of jewelry that you have. It was actually really fun to just be able to wear everything at once and not think about whether or not it "goes" together.

IMAGINE

I've been feeling super great about my outfits lately but only meh about my outfit photography. I don't know what it is. Perhaps, I just need to "imagine" my ideal photographic background and it will appear? Get it. Get it?

I love this tank. It is tissue thin and super soft, and those things combined make me very happy when the temps start climbing.

GETTING WARMER

It is getting warmer. Quickly. I always get stressed out around this time because I just want to be cool and comfy, yet I never really know how to dress for cool and comfy. I'm mentioned this before. I'm really trying to think outside of the box for when the hot weather comes. I'm a planner, I can't help it.

Admittedly, it was too warm for these boots today and I got silly stares at the grocery store. I am loving the boots with shorts thing though, I am milking it while I can.

CHOICES, CHOICES

I have two options with this dress.
1. Always wear heels with it.
2. Hem it.
Otherwise, I feel very Amish-esque wearing it. I'm still trying to decide what I'm gonna do. I just loved the color too much to pass it up. It is my very subtle nod in the form of fatigue green to the military inspired looks popping up all over.

On another note, do you ever dream up so many ways to style things that you can't choose which to wear first? That happened to me today. Actually, it happens to me a lot.

GOING WITHOUT

012
018
I think Toms shoes are fantastic. They are so comfy and minimalistic. Throw in an donated pair for each pair purchased and I'm sold, pun intended. Well, today was there A Day Without ShoesIt is pretty self explanatory.

To be fair, I did not go the whole day without shoes. I had a science lab today and we aren't allowed in the lab room without proper foot wear (they take their environmental science very seriously) so I donned my Toms for classes today. I did, however, spend my two hour lunch break barefoot making lunch, taking outfit pictures, letting my dogs out, and running around trying to get some last minute class stuff together. It may not seem like a big deal to spend two hours barefoot, especially when you're mostly doing around your own house but I couldn't help but feel icky after my outfit pictures. I wanted to go wash my feet off right away but I wanted until I was about to leave for class again. This just goes to show how spoiled I am. We don't think of having proper foot covering as being spoiled, but to many people around the world, it is a huge deal.

The little time I spent without my shoes made me realize how much I take for granted. I really am very lucky. It is just something to think about.

Oh, and just a little side note, I feel like I have a pretty healthy self-esteem when it comes to body issues but one of my few qualms with my body are my toes. So it is kinda a big deal that they are on my blog in a picture form.

SUNSHINE ON MY SHOULDERS

I love morning light. Evening light is good, well, great also but there is something about morning light that I love more. I'm still playing around with the setting on my camera in order to be able to capture it the way I want but it is getting there.
