GIRLS' NIGHT

Wednesdays are my long days at school. Like I said yesterday, I go MWF but Mondays and Friday I am only there from 8ish-12ish - not bad at all. On Wednesdays I'm there from 8ish to 5ish because I have all my MF classes, plus a two hour wait pre-science lab, plus the three hour lab itself. I don't mind the lab itself because there are some really fun people in it and I love my professor. Actually, it would be too bad at all if lab day didn't also coincide with Girls' Night.

Now, Girls' Night sounds like it is just a rip-roaring good time. You know, some thing that should be help on a weekend (or at least some evening when you don't have to wake up early the next day). But honestly, it is just me and a good girlfriend getting together for a couple of hours and chatting (venting/unloading/laughing/crying) for a few hours. On most Wednesdays I am so exhausted by the time I get home that I just want to crash into my bed. The last thing I want to do is actually go out someplace but I am always so glad that I did. It is such a relief to have that time pre-slotted out to just catch up.

Now the outfit - I've been waiting, like a cat ready to pounce, for the right weather/time to wear this outfit. I think I might have gotten a little sick of waiting and jumped the gun because, truth be told, it was a little warm this afternoon for boots and a jacket (even it the sleeves WERE rolled up). But who cares? Not I! I kind love this get up. And I also am wondering why I don't take my photos is downtown McKinney (where these were taken and we hold Girls' Night) more often. There are soooo many awesome backdrops! I will have to make it a point to do more outfit photos down there.

THE BEST POLICY

It is rare that I leave my house on Tuesdays. I have class Monday, Wednesday, Friday so I try to get a lot of my running around done on those days. Tuesdays are generally reserved for studying so I really don't even have a reason to get dressed but most of the time, I do. That being said, most of the time I also don my slippers with whatever I decide to wear.

Had I worn this out of the house, I would have worn black ballet flats. But, I did not wear it out of the house. Honesty is the best policy, right?

DISTRACTED

A little tidbit about Miss Distinctly Desiree - when she gets an idea in her head, she tends to obsess about it. Generally speaking, it totally consumes her thoughts and interferes with the rest of her life. One of these thoughts happened this weekend and hasn't been out of her head ever since. Oh, and she likes to refer to herself in the third person. Just kidding about the last part but the rest is true. I am feeling quite distracted as of late (but a good distracted).

This outfit came to fruition Sunday afternoon when I finally got around to getting dressed. I am always looking for the perfect weekend comfy outfit that consists of more than just my Target flannel pjs and I kinda feel like I hit the jackpot with this one. I liked it so much that I wore it today again. I've been doing that a lot lately - repeating Sunday's outfit on Monday. Gross? No! I call it a time saver.

I'm not going on any trips until Thanksgiving, but I am proud to say that I am completely prepared with TSA approved bottles. I picked them up at The Container Store not because I am worried about traveling with large bottles, but because I like all of my containers to look the same in my bathroom. This one in particular is my moisturizer with spf 35 (in case you were wondering).

When I was out taking my outfit shots on Wednesday, I happened to glance up at the sky and I saw this beautiful cloud. I thought it was just stunning. I don't think I stop and notice these sorts of things enough. 

COPY CAT

This post should be titled "Distinctly Desiree Is A Fibber" because I didn't really wear this today. Well, I did (obviously) but only for about an hour and only to take these photos. To be completely honest, I probably changed outfits 20 times today because I couldn't make up my mind. It didn't help that I was feeling grumpy, indecisive, sleepy and bloated. I spent most of the day in a pair of jeggings and a Pittsburgh Steelers hoodie - not exactly glamourous. But, now that I think of it maybe I should have taken some photos of it.

Alas, I did not. I took these. I have had this photo from The Sartorialist in my inspiration folder since I first saw it. I never got around to doing anything like it because I never got around to buying a pretty yellow dress. I did, however, get around to buying a pretty yellow cardigan. Since I was feeling so uninspired today, I decided to be a little copy cat and recreate that look. It kinda makes me wish that I actually left my house today.

IN THE ARMY NOW

I've been trying to write this post for, like, 20 minutes. I've written and erased no less than 20 sentences. I'm kind of brain dead (and I'm watching Killers, which might also be hindering to writing process). So, this is me giving up. 

All I've got is that I love these cargos. They a smidge loose, but I still dig 'em. Just FYI, I will probably be living in these pants, a tee, and my converse for the next few weekends. Schlumpy? I don't care!

CHANGE OF PLANS

I didn't mean to wear this today. I meant to wear my AA white dress, a brown belt, and a funky cool necklace. But, right before I got dressed I was reading over the comments from my giveaway and was reminded of the whole maxi-dress/skirt trend. In an effort to "autumn-ize" it, I paired it with a sweater vest and oxfords. Sandals just felt too summer-y (as if the 90*F weather wasn't enough to remind me that Texas isn't ready for Autumn yet).

IN THE HOLE

I have four dogs. They like to dig holes in the backyard. I take my photos in the backyard. I stepped in one of these holes right before I took these photos. It almost caused me to fall in doggie poo. I love my blog and all but I have to say that if I had fallen in doggie poo, I probably would have given up on photos and called it a day.

Anyway, I wore this to the Plano Balloon Festival on Saturday (and again today, I've been doing that a lot lately). I felt super cool and laid back for some reason. Do you ever feel like that? I felt hip. And how saying that I felt hip kinda makes me feel like a loser, haha.

VINTAGE KEY NECKLACE GIVEAWAY {CLOSED}

Nearly a month ago I talked about doing a giveaway for a vintage key necklace. Then at the end of August, I said that within a week I'd have that fun little giveaway up. Hm, well I am a bad blogger, you guys. You know how it goes with school, homework, and kids. Better late than never? =)




Chain #1 is an thin, antiqued brass chain. The longest that the necklace can be with this chain is 30 inches.

I will be using a random number generator to choosing two winners for this giveaway. The first winner that is drawn will have first choice on which key they would like, both winners will be able to choose if they would like Chain #1 or #2. BIG PLANS

I have big plans for this dress come cooler weather. They include army green, lace, boots and a really cozy sweater (maybe or maybe not all at once). I thought today was the day but at 92*F, I think I would have a heat stroke if I wore boots.

I am happy to say that I have acquired (mostly through thrifting) almost all of the things from my autumn wishlist. I am still thinking about a faux fur vest, a pair of low wedge Hunter rain boots, and a pair of entirely too expensive (and sold out) pair of Banana Republic clogs. We shall see.

PHOTOGRAPHY FRIDAY

A few months ago baby girl, my mum, and I had a "real" tea party. We got all dressed up, made (ok bought) tea party snacks and made real tea. I got some adorable photos and I'm not exactly sure why I never showed them for a Photography Friday.

A TALK

This outfit is pretty darn simple. There isn't a whole lot to say about it other than I got this t-shirt at Gap for $7. Yay for Labor Day sales!

But fear not, my friends, because I do have something else to talk about. First of all, shoes that rub. Raise your hand if you hate this, kids? These Old Navy heels are adorable and match, like, 98% of my closet but they always rub a pretty nasty blister on each of my big toes. But not anymore! I found the secret to rub free shoes (and not it isn't simply not buying shoes that rub!), it is Dr. Scholls For Her Rub Relief Strips. They are Heaven in a strip for those of us who want to wear shoes even if they're uncomfortable. Try them.  I have put them in pretty much every pair of shoes I own. (And, no I don't have some sort of secret agreement with Dr. Scholls to try to brainwash everyone into thinking their product is great. They just really are.)

The second thing on todays to-talk-about-list is getting things that you wanted to buy anyway for cheaper. Does that make sense? For example: I was planning on buying a pair of skinny cargos and a pair of corduroys. I scouted out the perfect pair of cargos at Ross for $12 but didn't buy them because I didn't exactly love the color. And I spotted the JCrew Toothpick Ankle Cords on sale for $30 but, alas, they were out of my size. So I had put both pairs of pants on hold for the time being thinking that, if all else fails, I will survive without them. That is until I went a few towns over to a brand new (to me) thrift store and found two pairs of skinny cargos and a pair of cords. The best part? The grand total for the three items was $19! Which is (if you read a few sentences above) less than just ONE pair of the JCrew cords on sale. I love it.
