14/30: BECAUSE I SAID SO

I painstakingly edited down my already edited closet in order to pack for my trip. I had the best of intentions to snap pretty outfit photos all over the pretty woods. I do this every time and every time I get too caught up in seeing everyone and eating yummy food, and the pretty outfit photos don't happen.

However, I did have a few outfits that I liked. I'm pretty sure I'm going to play dress up and recreate them. Is that cheating? I'm gonna go with no because a.) I actually wore them, b.) I actually thought that were pretty cute and c.) because I said so, hehe.

On a completely random note - to all of the parents of young children out there ... raise your hand if you think that "because I said so" is the best saying ever invented. I do. I know it doesn't always work and all but seriously, what is better than dropping the "because I said so" bomb? Am I making myself sound like a mean Mama? I swear I am not.

13/30: ALL BETTER

I ripped these tights before I even left my driveway. I had gotten up early in order to get to class early in order to get some things done. I ended up pulling out of my driveway at my normal time ... only with ripped tights, no phone and cold coffee. The day did not start off well. On the bright side, my beautiful little girl was extremely chipper. After I elicited a few sighs of frustration she looked at me and said, "I'm really going to miss you while you're at school, mama." Yep, that made it all better. Well, that and a little bit of clear nail polish on the rip in my tights.

12/30: BOHEMIAN?

I gave this shirt a second chance. It still disappoints.

Aside from that, I loved this outfit - loved, loved, loved. I wore it to finish up some last minute things before we left on vacation. It was chilly when I left the house so I had on my favorite olive jacket which, by the way, is perfect for running errands because the pockets are so big that it eliminates the need for a purse. I felt kind of bohemian in this outfit. Do I need more layers and jewelry to qualify as bohemian? I don't know but that is the vibe I gave myself. Kinda carefree?

Hey, friends! I am back in my home town visiting family for a week, so I've queued up some posts for while I'm gone. Most of the time I don't post on the weekends but, believe it or not, I do still get dressed and during the 30 for 30 challenge I am still sticking to my 30 items. Since I won't have the time or sufficient Internet connection (read: super small town = super bad Internet) to be posting while I'm away,  I've scheduled some posts to go up of my weekend outfits. Which, in all honesty, are pretty much exactly like my weekday outfits. I'm a college student and a mama of a three-year-old, I don't have a ton of variation in my wardrobe - haha.

I'm really terrible at scheduling posts because in my normal posts, I just talk about what I did in the outfit I wore that day. Well since I wore this a week and a half ago, it doesn't seem to matter exactly what I did that day. Follow me? What I DO have to say, is that these tights were purchased at Gap early last Spring for $.99. They are super cozy and sweater-y. They normally cost $20. I got two pairs. I vow to always buy tights at the end of the seasons so as to spend a little money as possible. What can I say? I like cozy tights and I'm kinda cheap.

It is late. I am sleepy. I got caught up in a tornado of laundry and packing, which would be why I am posting at 1:30 instead of sleeping.

On a very brief side note - I really, really love to pack. Is that completely weird? Suitcases, carry-ons, handbags ... bring it on. I think I just like organizing. Yes, maybe that is it.

9/30: EXPLANATION

Today, I informed a fellow (male) student that I was on a 30ish day shopping ban. He laughed at me. So, naturally, I tried to explain the rest of the challenge. "30 items, 30 outfits, 30 days? I don't get it. Isn't it just an outfit a day? Don't you just have to, you know, get dressed?"The explanation ended after that.

I don't think he grasped the point. I'm not sure if it is a female thing or a blogger thing. Oh well.

I wore this to go muck around in a creek this afternoon. Actually, I put waterproof boots on for that part but everything else stayed. I don't make creek mucking a habit usually, this was for an environmental science class. I don't really know how much I learned from it but we had so funny moments.

8/30: DISAPPOINTMENT

The lace top I'm wearing was a bit disappointing. I bought it a couple of months ago but I hadn't worn it before today. I included it in the challenge items because I thought it would be a great layering piece and because lace is such a hit for autumn this season. Well, during the its first adventure into the world it some of the little stretchy elastic pieces that make up the lace pattern because to break. The lace didn't unravel and I don't have any holes of anything. Actually, it's probably not even noticeable to anybody but me. I just have these little fly away elastic bits around my wrists.

A few things that I would like to tell myself about a week and a half ago:
  • You will go into a flying fit of fear because you could not find your brand new (and only pair) of black leggings. You will accuse everybody and their dog of taking them and then find them right where you left them.
  • You should buy a new cream sweater. You wore yours to death last year and loved it but it seems that little elves have snuck into your closet over the summer and shrunk it.
  • You will want a plain white blouse.
  • You will not really miss shopping all that much (yet).
  • By cutting out the online browsing/shopping that you used to do, you will be insanely productive with your school work and crank out more in one week than you did the whole rest of the semester.
  • For once, you will not stress out about packing to go on vacation. You might actually do it in advance. Go, you, go!

7/30: COMMON SENSE

DSC_0003

I have a short rant. Actually, it is more like a common sense public service announcement.

Dear North Texans,

Yes, it is getting chillier. This happens from time to time, roughly every November/December. You give up your rights to complain about how "cold" it is if you are wearing shorts and flip flops. The same goes for skirts/dresses sans tights with Uggs. Uggs, alone, will not keep the rest of your body toasty.

Thank you,
Desiree

Now, I realize that I may have a slightly higher tolerance for the cold being from Pennsylvania and all but I find it insanely irritating when people continually complain about how cold they are when they're wearing inappropriate clothing in 50*F weather. You don't see me bundling up in jeans, boots and a scarf in the middle of July and then complaining about how hot I am, do you? No. I wear as little clothing as possible and THEN I complain about it, hehe. But, in all seriousness, what the heck people? Do we have no common sense anymore?

This is me trying to get my gigantic dog out of the photo. It looks like I'm being much more mean than I actually am. I normally get at least five shots with some part of a dog in them.

I was in a bad place when I bought these shorts. No, not at bad part of town but a bad mental place. I had just bought and returned several different pairs of olive cargo-ish pants. I swear I tried every store in town to find the perfect pair and I still came up empty handed. It was a rough patch in my relationship with shopping and clothing in general. I was feeling left out, abandoned and angry. So, naturally, I went to a sidewalk sale - adult clothing was $.50, who could say no? I actually went twice because I had second thoughts about not buying a sweater that I saw during round one. These shorts were unearthed during round two. There I was, waiting in a super long line when I looked down and saw I bit of olive peaking out from under a HUGE pile of junk. Having recently been let down by the color olive, I was a bit apprehensive about going in for the grab but I did it. Out came these babies. Admittedly, they are cargo-ish but where they TOO cargo-ish? I figured for $.50 I would find out.

The verdict: I like them - perfect color, great rise, just the right length. The bf said I looked like the late Crocodile Hunter. I beg to differ. I don't see him rocking polka dot tights with his cargo shorts.

Anyway, happy ending.

Does anyone else have a piece of clothing they love so much that they begin to think it matches with everything they own? That is how I feel about this jacket. At first, I was pumped because I got a really great deal on it. It was trendy and I didn't want to spend a fortune. I didn't think it would be in super heavy rotation for a couple reasons - it is unlined and, like I said before, it is trendy. Boy was I wrong. I wear this sucker all the time. I find myself trying to reason that it compliments things that it probably doesn't. It has been the perfect weight for the warm autumn that we've been having. Plus, it has those huge front pocket and I love pockets!

4/30: ON MY MIND

A couple of things that are on my mind:
  • I didn't really need this cardigan today. This Indian Summer stuff must end.
  • I went to the mall to get baby girl's photo taken. Apparently, she watches me take my blog photos wayyy too much. She jumped right into the swing of things and was such a little ham.
  • I am making beef stew tonight. I've been into making things that can be heated up for leftovers - chicken soup, veggie soup and chili mostly. I haven't ever attempted beef stew. I was told it smells bitter. I'm not sure this is good. Do any of you have tried and true beef stew recipes? I'd love to hear them!
  • We go to Pennsylvania for a (much too short) visit in a little over a week. I am having a harder time figuring out what clothes I want to take for baby girl than I am figuring out what I want to take for me. Why are all kids so stinking cute?!

I got these tights as a birthday present. Since my birthday is in June and I live in Texas, I didn't get a chance to break them out until now. I hadn't tried them on, so I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they were not simply polka dotted but they also had this fun diamond texture thing going on. The polka dots are less dotty and more random and splotchy but I like them. On the way to class today I realized that they reminded me of confetti. And I'm a big fan of confetti. As long as it isn't in my house and I don't have to clean it up, but other than that - I love the stuff.

I liked this outfit in theory. In real life, I think it looked kinda like a uniform with the denim popover underneath. Eh, you live you learn.

2/30: I'M A NEW SOLE

These are the boots that will be making the long 30 for 30 journey with me. They had prior engagements (a trip to the cobbler to be resoled) when I was photographing my items but, never fear, they have returned.

These boots are replacements (shh, don't tell them). At the beginning of the year, I thrifted a great pair of perfectly perfect vintage brown leather riding boots for $7.  I wore the heck outta them all last winter and was planning on doing so this winter. That is, until I same to the sad realization that the lining was ripped and I was getting vintage boot dust all over myself every time I took them off. They, too, made the trip to the cobbler but with less successful results. Sadly, they could not be fixed.

Luckily, while visiting my home town this summer I purchased these babies from a rummage sale - for $2. No, not a typo. Yes, $2. I don't even remember if I tried them on because, honestly, for $2 I would find somebody to wear them. It turned out that they fit but one of the soles had a huge crack in it, meaning that both soles needed replaced. Into the cobbler they go and out they come two weeks later with new soles. The total - $48.71 for resoling + $2 for the boots themself = $50.71 total. For awesome leather boots, not too bad at all.
