Blouse: Thrifted // Cardi: Thrifted NY&Co // Skirt: Thrifted // Tights: Gap // Shoes: JCPenny

I can't get enough of the colors in this blouse. I love how they're so subtle alone but, when paired with tights or a sweater, they really pop.

You may or may not have noticed a few changes around Distinctly Desiree. This is a direct result of me thinking I had my HTML code backed up and then realizing that, in fact, I did not. Oops. I'm on the fence about how I feel about it. I like it but there are a few things I'd like to add/tweek about my design and, quite frankly, I'm not sure I have the patience to do it myself. I've been toying with the idea of getting my blog redesigned for a few months now but I can't setting on what I want. Maybe in the next few weeks I'll make up my mind. Until then, I think I'll settle on this one for a bit. If any of you have suggestions for blog templates and/or designers, leave a link in the comments. I'd love to check them out.

Dress: Vintage, hemmed // Shirt: JCPenny // Tights: Hue // Shoes: Old Navy

Today is Friday. I wore this on Wednesday. I thought I posted it on Thursday. Apparently, my days are all mixed up. Yeah, anyway ...

How 'bout those primary colors? I thought about switching the mustard tights out for red when I saw how RYB I was but then I realized that, with red tights, I'd be just RB and that always makes me feel like I should be holding a flag and watching fireworks. Since it was not a patriotic holiday, the mustard stayed and hung out for a while.

But, all that aside, its Friday! Have a good weekend.

Sweater: Forever 21 // Skirt: Vintage, hemmed // Tights: Gap // Shoes: JCPenny // Necklace: Jupe

Red? Check. Teal? Check. Green and navy? Coming soon.

Before all is said and done, I will pair this skirt with tights corresponding with all of the colors in it. I left out the mustard color because I tried it and it doesn't look so great. My mustard tights are a bit too light for the color in the skirt and it ended up looking all wrong. Even thought I've only done two colors, as of right now, I like the red the best.

Which color do you like best so far?

Shirt: Thrifted Vera Wang for Kohl's // Cardi: Thrifted Ann Taylor // Shorts: Old Navy // Shoes: Gap

Oh, hey there bare legs in February. I thought it was a little early for you to come out and play but, evidently, Dallas weather disagrees. Back home in Pennsylvania, my family just had a couple inches of snow dumped on them. When I called to talk to my dad, he was plowing his driveway. Naturally, I made sure to mention that I was wearing shorts. I'm not sure he appreciated the gesture.

Hmmm, the outfit. I haven't had a formula for getting dressed lately. If I like it ... I put it on. My instinct tells me to belt this tunic-y top but I was feeling a little more relaxed this morning, so I went unbelted. Risky, I know.

Sweater: Forever 21 // Shirt: Gap // Shorts: TJMaxx // Tights: Hue // Shoes: Gap

I've had this outfit idea in the back of my head for a while now. When I woke up yesterday morning I thought, yeah today is the day for that outfit. Okay I actually thought, wow I'd like some coffee and breakfast, but after that it was all about the outfit. When I was dreaming it up I imagined it without the sweater but, as it turns out, the sweater was necessary because the wind made it a little chilly. Plus, it looked better with it than without it.

Blouse: TJMaxx // Cardi: Thrifted NY&Co // Jeans, Shoes: Gap // Necklace: Forever 21

See how my hair is combed back into a nice, casual pony tail? Yeah, that is not possible anymore. I've been wanting to have some longish layers cut into my hair because it felt icky and boring being all one length for so long. So, yesterday evening, I decided that I couldn't take it anymore and headed to get it cut. I told the lady things like "take an inch off," "longer layers," and "nothing choppy." Apparently, that we were not speaking the same hair cut language because I did not walk out of the with what I had envisioned. Pictures will follow but lets just revel in the last photo taken of my longer hair.

Other than that, I hope everyone is having a great weekend thus far!

Blouse: Forever 21 // Cords: Thrifted Old Navy // Shoes: Old Navy

I am not very creative with these cords. They are too straight to work well rolled down. They're too bulky to tuck into jeans. So I roll them, cuff them, peg them, whatever them. Not much variation but I like it. Which is why I keep repeating it. Plus, these pants are super comfy. Pretty much sweat pant comfy. Which, in my books, is always okay.

Tunic: Thrifted JCrew // Shorts: Old Navy // Tights: Hue // Shoes: Steve Madden // Belt: A'Gaci

I do believe that Texas has decided that it is time for Spring. It is supposed to be in the 60s and 70s for the foreseeable forecast.

There is something about this salmon color that makes me feel so springy. I especially like how it looks with the navy blue. I felt like it was a little less expected than black or grey. And, of course, I had to throw in the little bit of leopard. I find myself wanting to pair these shoes with pretty much everything these days. I've had them for roughly six years and they have held up really well but, lately they've been a little worse for the wear. Perhaps it is time to think about searching for a replacement pair?

Shirt: Target // Cardi: Thrifted NY&Co // Cords: Thrifted Old Navy // Shoes: Steve Madden
Shirt: Gap // Cardi: Thrifted Ann Taylor // Jeans, Shoes: Gap

These are those two missing outfit I was talking about. I was feeling super casual this past weekend. I spend a good deal of it sitting at my computer, restoring and reorganizing all of my photos. I had a little technology hiccup last week that caused me to loose all of the images on my computer. Luckily, I had just recently bought a external hard drive (how did I go so long without that thing?!) and I was able to restore nearly all of what I had lost. While I was able to restore it, I was not able to restore my organizational structure. Which was kind of a bummer. Hence sifting through thousands of images and getting them back in their rightful folders.

It was definitely time consuming but it was actually kind of nice to rediscover old photos that I had forgotten about. I took SO many pictures of baby girl in the past three years and it was a nice little trip down memory lane. It is so funny how when things are happening and you're in the moment, you don't think you could ever forget it but then you had three more years of those moments and some of them get jumbled together. It was nice to relive some of those amazing memories while I was getting things back to normal on my computer.

Cardi: Thrifted Ann Taylor // Shirt: Gap // Skirt: Thrifted // Tights: Hue // Booties: JCPenny

How, you may ask, am I on outfit number 12 when I was only on outfit number 9 in my last post? Well, my friends, I got dressed this weekend (shocking, yes?). In my 30 for 30 clothes (duh). And took photos (because what is the point of getting dressed if you DON'T take photos?). I thought I'd get ahead of things so I labeled the photos with their correct number and got them all ready to post. Then I got dressed this morning and I knew that I had to post this outfit today. Mostly because it is Valentine's day and I am dressed for the occasion. So, there ya have it - the reason that we are out of order and all.

I don't believe I've ever mixed hot pink and red but I've had this outfit in mind for a few weeks. I knew today was the today to whip it out. I l-o-v-e-d it all day long. I even got some big smiles while wearing this. I'm not sure if they were 'wow-she-looks-silly' smiles or 'wow-bright-colors-make-me-happy' smiles but I'm okay with it either way.

Sweater: Gap // Blazer: Thrifted Nine West // Jeans: Gap // Booties: JCPenny
Shirt: Target // Skirt: Vintage, hemmed // Tights: Hue & Gap // Booties: Forever21
You get two outfits today. Luuuucky! After a super long evening class, an upset tummy and one three year old tantrum, I decided to call it a day before I had a chance to post yesterday. I'll let the photos speak for themselves because today is my very first Friend Friday post! I've been watching from afar for a few weeks and I love reading everyone's answers, so I decided to chime in this week.

1. What color dominates your closet? Black and grey are pulling even.

2. If money weren't an issue how would you change the color emphasis
in your closet? I would definitely buy more quality color pieces. If I’m investing in something, I tend to lean towards neutral colors because I feel like they’ll ‘go further’ (whatever that means). Right now, I would really love a couple colorful pencil skirts and a bright wool jacket.

3. What is your mantra about mixing colors? I used to be SO weird about mixing colors. I would never have considered dressing in complimentary and analogous colors before I started blogging. When I first started venturing into the world of color mixing, I printed out a color wheel and used it as a guide for what works together. After a while, I stopped looking at it and just went with what feels right. I’m definitely not scientific when it comes to it, hehe.

4. For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits? I use a lot of jewelry to bring color into my outfits. It is easy, season-less and (most of the time) pretty inexpensive. A lot of the time I use colorful tights in addition to jewelry. I think they play off of each other well.

5. Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color
into their wardrobe? I definitely think that Suze from Miss Vinyl Ahoy does awesome things with color that I probably would never have the courage to pull off. I also adore how Terra from SWF pulls of such great colors so easily.
Actually, I do have something to say about my 9th outfit ... I do not think I am a layering tights kinda girl. I love how it looks. I was so happy with the result. But, man, it wasn't so comfy. Am I doing this wrong? It is supposed to cut off circulation to my legs? Ok, it wasn't the bad but still!

Sweater: F21 // Denim Popover: JCPenny // Jeans: Gap // Booties: F21 // Cowl: Handmade

Oh, hey, look who finally stepped out of the iPhoto editing world. Yes, that would be me. After playing with Adobe Lightroom in my photography class last night, I decided that I wanted to give it a shot. I realize that pretty much everyone on the planet has done the whole desaturate-the-background-but-leave-yourself-in-color thing but this is one thing I learned in class last night, so I put my knowledge to work. Plus, the background was kinda dingy anyway since everything is pretty grey right now.

I've worn these this denim popover and jeans together a few times and I'm always really happy with how it looks. I'm always really happy with the result but I wanted to switch it up a little so I added a v-neck sweater. Yes, that is about how much thought went into this outfit. How come those always end up being the ones I like the best?

Shirt: Gap // Skirt: ModCloth // Tights: Walmart // Shoes: Gap // Necklace: Kohl's

This dress was never flattering on me. Don't get me wrong, it is a beautiful dress that had absolutely killer detailing on the back. I just never fell right on me. When I would wear it I would spent all day fidgeting with it and, lets face it, that is just not fun. So today, in a fit of frustration, I cut the top half off of the dress. And guess what? I love it! It needs a tighter strip of elastic to replace what was already there but that is no big deal.

I am trying to think of what to do with the top half of the dress. I love the back too much to just toss it but it is too short to wear as a regular shirt. Maybe i could layer it over a tank this summer for a cute, cut off top? Or should I just cut my losses and be happy with the skirt? I don't know if I can pull off the cut off top, even with a tank under it. Hmmmm...

Sweater: Forever 21 // Blouse: TJMaxx // Cords: Thrifted Old Navy // Booties: JCPenny

No, not the I'm-nervous-about-something cold feet but the literally-my-feet-are-freezing kinda cold feet. On Saturday, the weather was much more pleasant than it had been and we decided to run a few errands. I had these shoes on with black trouser socks and didn't like how it looked, so I nixed the idea and decided to go without. The boyfriend assured me that it was warm enough to do so. He wasn't figuring that I'd step out of the truck into a huge, icy puddle that would splash icky water into my shoes. The conversation went as follows ...

Me: "See, I told you I should have worn the socks."
Him: "Why? So that you could have cold, wet socks? I don't see how that would have made a difference."
Me: "..."

Sometimes he makes good points. Sometimes.

Picnik collage
For my photography class I had to demonstrate the differences in aperture stops. The left was taken with f5.2@1/250 and the right was taken with f22@1/15.

Another assignment from my class was to capture blur of some sort. I tried shooting a fountain but without my tripod I couldn't shoot at a slow enough shutter speed. My next try was cars. I actually think it is kind of cool. Both this and the aperture techniques are things I knew before entering the class but it is fun to do it anyway. I'm a nerd.

The two photos above are the result of that brain power loss I was talking about earlier. I was super bored and lounging around ... in my pjs ... at 3:00pm.

Sweater: Gap // Skirt: Vintage, hemmed // Tights: Hue // Shoes: Forever21 // Belt: Thrifted

When I got this skirt, I instantly knew that I wanted to wear it with red tights. There are so many color options (well, at least five obvious ones) with this skirt but red jumped out at me. I love how the tights are just enough to give the outfit a little kick. It's like, chips are fine and all but when you add salsa then it gets really good. Did I just compare my clothing to chip and salsa? I'm pretty sure that means I'm loosing brain power from being cooped up inside for too many consecutive days. Yeah, we're just going to go with that explanation.

Brown Sweater: Michael Kors via Ross // Cream Sweater: Gap // Leggings: Kohl's // Socks: Hue // Shoes: F21

I've been doing a whole bunch of nothing for the past few days. Since my classes have been cancelled and I'm all caught up on studying, my schedule is pretty open. My open schedule leaves lots of room for blog reading, Internet surfing and randomly catching up on chores. As much as I'd love to be one of those fabulous ladies that lounges/cleans/cooks/whatevers in a glamourous outfit, I am not. I will choose comfort each and every time. And this, my friends, is the epitome of comfort.

I almost didn't include this sweater in my 30 items. It is that in-between length that isn't quite long enough to be a sweater dress but isn't quite short enough to be a regular sweater. The deciding factor was that I knew it would be much too warm to wear it after the 30 days were up and I liked it too much to wait until next winter to pull it out again.

Sweater: Gap // Shorts: Old Navy // Tights: Target // Shoes: Steve Madden

This is a repeat outfit from when I was in Pennsylvania. I never ended up getting a photo so, obviously, the ensemble never happened (duh). I've been wanting to recreate it ever since I got back home but wanted to wait for the 30 for 30 because I knew I was going to include everything I'm wearing. I love how bright tights look against these leopard shoes. I feel like it is unexpected. I don't know if that is in my head or not, haha.

On a weather note, my classes were cancelled yesterday, today and they're already cancelled for tomorrow. I'm pretty sure that nobody is really going anywhere down here. We are a state very ill prepared for any type of wintry mix, to say the least.

And, interestingly enough, I was warmer when I wore this outfit in Pennsylvania. It's the wind that gets you in Texas. When the temperatures are low, it cuts right through you.

Shirt: JCPenny // Shorts: TJMaxx // Boots: ELLE via Kohl's // Tights: Gap // Belt: Thrifted

Yes, I just titled this post "Day One" for lack of a better title.

I didn't leave the house today on account of the inch of ice that is covering (pretty much) my entire city. True to form, the entire town shut down and so did I. I spent the day catching up on laundry, finalizing my 30 for 30 items and thats about it.

I love how this utilitarian top looks agains these ruffle-y boots. Actually, I love how anything looks against these ruffle-y boots. The boots can do no wrong in my book. All in all, it was a pretty comfy alternative to schlumping around in my sweats all day long.

{30 for 30} WINTER EDITION

I enjoyed participating in the last 30 for 30 challenge so much that, naturally, I want to give it another go. Admittedly, I do not feel as prepared for this edition as I did for the fall edition. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I stuck to a fairly neutral palette for the fall edition. This time, I feel like I've incorporated a range of different patterns and colors that don't necessarily all coordinate at first glance. Anyway, the rules have not changed (and can be found with the links above) so, without further ado, my thirty items ...

I had a really hard time picking my items this time. Part of it stemmed from knowing that, for Texas, winter will be over by the time the challenge is over. There were a few colder weather items that I wouldn't have included if I had a few more weeks of cold weather after the challenge to get some wear out of them. But, alas, this 30 for 30 will head me right into Spring which isn't a bad thing because Spring can be absolutely beautiful in Texas.
