SAFARI

I swapped this great little jacket in Austin and I've been dying to wear it ever since. It is such a great Spring and Summer piece. It instantly brightens up any outfit. Which is good because Dallas has been covered in clouds and drizzle for nearly a week now (these were taken last week for the self portrait project).

When I bought this dress, I thought it would be super versatile. It hasn't proved to be so ... yet. Or, possibly, I'm just not being very creative. How would you style this dress? I always love to hear the new ideas!

SHORT CHANGED

Target shirt and skirt, Nordstrom cardi, Payless shoes, ShopStrut and Banana Republic necklaces

If you are anywhere near North Texas, you know I did not wear this today. Mostly because we had a slow and steady drizzle all day long. Which was super nice for lounging around and getting those little things around the house off of my to do list. Now so super nice for taking outfit shots thought. Don't feel short changed, you weren't missing much in the outfit department.

COLD SNAP

DSC_0056

I woke up for 44 degree temps which, admittedly, is not super cold but, when you've been having 90 degree temps, it feels kinda chilly. So, I decided to go in the way of comfort and layers. I really love the contrast of this bright scarf with the more muted army green jacket.

Also, I've come to the conclusion that I have absolutely not idea how to tie a "spring" scarf. This is how I loop most of my winter scarves but a spring scarf? It seems a little too covered up. Maybe I'm being silly.

My latest photography assignment has been self-portraits which, considering that I take photos of myself almost daily, should not be so difficult to complete.

This outfit started out completely differently. It involved boots and my new little birdie necklace. Then I looked in the mirror and discovered that it was incredibly boring. Off came the boots, on went the leopard flats. Off came the little birdie necklace, on went my chest piece (as I warmly refer to it). I am a thousand times more pleased with this version of the outfit. It is so amazing what a different a pair of shoes or a necklace can make.

Lets just take a moment and relish in the cuteness of this necklace that I received in my goodie bag from TxSCC. It is so delicate and adorable. I love it.

Ok, cuteness relish over.

This was my lazy Sunday afternoon outfit. While I was in my inspiration rut I peaked in my closet and saw this shirt and this cardi hanging next to each other. I loved how the orange cardi picked up the orange in the flowers on the top. That, my friends, is how much thought went into this but I really love it.

CROPS

DSC_0085
(Dress: ModCloth // Cardi: Thrifted JCrew // Shoes: Steve Madden)

I definitely had the urge to go take photos in the middle of the field. How much prettier would it have been without all that dead grass right behind me? Answer: much prettier. Unfortunately, the farmer (or whoever owned it) was standing a couple hundred yards away and my lovely boyfriend informed me that it is probably not okay to stomp all over his crop. His crop? What crop? If I were I asked, I would totally say that was just grass. But, no, apparently that is crop. What kind of crop, I'm not exactly sure. All I can think about it how much nicer my photos would have been with just the green crop and not the mess brown grass.

INSPIRATION TAP OUT

This outfit was the last of my inspiration. Transitional periods between seasons are hard for me. I always feel out of touch with the clothes that belong in the new season. When this happens, I try to do a big closet clean out to get rid of everything that doesn't fit, doesn't look right, or I just don't like anymore. Since coming back from Austin and getting things settled at home, I haven't had time to do this and it is kind of driving me crazy. Here's to hoping that a closet overhaul is the key to my creativity. That, or perhaps just some good outfit planning? I always seems to feel less stressed when I plan.

TxSCC: DAY THREE

I was so excited for the conference. There were so many great people speaking and I really couldn't wait to just absorb everything that was to be said. Being the avid note take/list maker that I am, I brought a special notebook just for bloggity stuff. Despite the special notebook, I actually spent very little time writing things down. I just sat and listened. It was great.

Jennine delivered a great keynote speech. It was such an inspiring way to kick off the conference. She focused on the very simple things that we sometimes forget about when we start blogging - being honest, showing up even when you might not feel like it and doing the work. She highlighted so many things but, at the heart of it, I feel like it really came down to doing the best that you can do and being happy with that.

I got a lot out of all of the panels but I have to say that I most enjoyed the Longevity panel (featuring Kyla, Katy and Jennine) and the Authenticity panel (featuring Jen, Indiana and James). They were the two that I was originally looking forward to the most and neither one disappointed. Both panels were really relaxed and seemed to have a really good conversation flow.

All in all, it was a great weekend and I really felt like I learned a lot. I was great to finally get to meet all these wonderful people. I'm glad that I got the opportunity to attend.

On our second day in Austin we got to explore the 2nd Street District a little more. It is the best little downtown area. The shops are so great and everyone was so nice. Hands down, my favorite shop was Langford Market. They had THE sweetest, most attentive employees that I've come across in a very long time. I must have taken 20 different dresses into a dressing room but they were so nice about helping me find what I wanted in way of styles and sizes. One employee was particularly awesome, she was so much fun to chat with and I'm really glad that we kept bumping into each other throughout the weekend. Devina, if you're reading, I'm totally talking about you. You are awesome!

Later that evening, we headed out to the party at BoConcept. I was kind of dragging because I was worn out and probably could have curled up in bed. I'm glad I didn't though because I ended up having a blast! It was SO much fun mingling and getting to know some more ladies. I wish that I had gotten photos with more people.

Isn't this necklace by Peacock Plume amazing?! It was $20, people. Yes, $20. I fell in love and hand to have it right then and there. I especially adore it with the this sherbet orange color.

TxSCC: DAY ONE

Very clever post title, no? I plan on naming the next TxSCC post TxSCC: DAY TWO and the one after that TxSCC: DAY THREE. I know, I know. I blow myself away with my creativity also. Ok ... now begins the recap posting.

Going to Austin for the TxSCC was such an amazing opportunity to meet so many awesome people. I'm really glad that I was able to attend.

We drove down to Austin after my class on Friday. I've said it before but I adore road trips. Actually, I adore flying also but lately I've been favoring road trips. No road trip is complete without lots of snack and a pit stop for yummy food. If you happen to be driving on I-35 in Texas and you have the opportunity to stop at The Czech Stop in West, Texas ... do it. You won't regret it. The yummiest baked goods ever.

The first night in Austin held dinner at a yummy pizza place called Tarverna in the 2nd Street District and the Swap put on by the Swapaholics. I got SO many goodies from the swap. It was my first one ever, so I was a little shy about just grabbing and going. I know I missed a couple gems because I felt weird just taking stuff. Either way, I can say that I walked away with some really great things (Banana Republic jacket, velvet blazer, wool skirt, dresses, and a couple other things). I would definitely be excited to attend another swap if there were one in my area. It was so well organized and really is such a great idea.

My roomie for Austin (besides the boyfriend and daughter) was a great lady named Lacy. Lacy blogs over at The Electric Elmo Newsfeed. She is pretty awesome and kept me upbeat through a house rental disaster. It was really nice to have someone to attend the events with. It is truly humbling to be surrounded with so many wonderfully creative people and was really, really nervous to meet everyone. I think I may have been much more reserved had Miss Lacy not been there.

DOWN TO BUSINESS

This is my I-really-have-a-ton-of-stuff-to-do look. Upon returning home from Austin, I had an unreal to do list. I had a house to clean because I didn't get to it before I left. Grocery shopping to do because we were completely out of food. A baby girl to get back on a normal schedule, which is a job all of its own. Oh, and about 500 loads of laundry to do. So this is my get down to business outfit. It is very exciting and glamourous, no?

I have so much to say about Austin and I plan on starting to say it tomorrow. I am still holding my breath that my student edition of Lightroom get approved tomorrow because I want to start editing and posting my photos. I might have to resort back to iPhoto because I'm just that excited.

STRAGGLERS

Alas, the last two outfits from the 30 for 30 challenge. I was up to my ears with things to do in order to leave for the Texas Style Council Conference, so they never got posted. And then I was having too much of a blast in Austin to post, so there ya go.

I really liked these last two outfits. But, that is pretty much all I can say about them because they feel like they happened approximately 10,000 years ago. I have filled my brain up with too much other great info from the conference to remember how I felt in them. My apologies, friends.

I have lots of photos to sift through and post from Austin. And, as luck would have it, my free trial of Adobe Lightroom has run out and I'm in the limbo of waiting to have my student version approved. Once I've used Lightroom, iPhoto just doesn't seem to cut it anymore.

HAPPY TUESDAY

So, this is going to be another one of those list posts. I'm beat and I can't figure out exactly why because my day was pretty low key.
  • Hey there bare legs. It still feels a little too early for you. I know it isn't ... but it feels that way.
  • I love the contrast of this chambray pop over and this fancier pleated skirt. It feel cool in a very unintentional way. Although, it was completely intentional.
  • Two this to take away from the last photo - it is entirely composed of Gap items and the neighbors of the right have a far better lawn care regime than the neighbors on the left. Sadly, our yard resembles the yard on the left.
Happy Tuesday, everyone!

FOURTH BUT NOT LEAST

DSC_0039
Shirt: Gap // Jacket: JCrew via Plato's Closet // Skirt: Vintage, hemmed // Tights: Hue // Shoes: Old Navy

I am convinced that the wind is out to ruin all of my outfit photos. I took, like, 100 shots and this was the only one that came out decent.

Here is it, the last color in the skirt (minus mustard because I gave up on mustard). I know you've all been waiting with bated breath. I wish the photos had turned out a little better because I really like the whole outfit. The simple white tee with the navy tights was spot on for me. Although, if I'm being completely honestly, I must say that I really wanted to wear this with my cognac boots. THAT would have been the perfect outfit for me. Alas, I did not include those in my 30 items.

So, now that the color test is complete, which do you like best?
Navy?
I'm sticking to red. I just can shake it. I love them.

WEEKEND UNIFORM

DSC_0008
Tunic: Thrifted JCrew // Shirt, Shoes: Gap // Leggings: Kohl's

I can't say I have a weekend uniform because it drastically changes based on what I'm going to be doing. Lately, I've been doing a big bunch of not much on the weekends (other than lots of laundry) so my 'uniform' has been anything involving leggings and slippers. On this particular day, I had to run out to pick baby girl up from a sleepover with her Mammy. A quick change of ballet flats for slipper and I was ready to go. It is becoming increasingly clear that, deep down, I really am all about comfort.

A quick switch of top and shoes and you have a different feeling outfit. The top was worn to class on Thursday evening and the bottom was worn to class on Friday morning. Truth be told, these were outfits of convenience as I was running late Friday morning. Convenient or not, I love this hot pink cardi. It is so saturated and I can't get enough.

AND THE LIST GOES ON

DSC_0029
Sweater: Michael Kors via Ross // Skirt: Vintage, hemmed // Tights: Hue // Shoes: JCPenny // Belt: Forever 21

And then there were three - red, teal and green. Even though everybody who expressed an opinion liked the teal tights better, I'm still stickin' to my gun and saying I'm like the red. One more color to go (maybe two, if I decided to give mustard another shot) so we'll see if navy can change my mind.

PURE COMFORT

DSC_0047

DSC_0050

I kinda love this parking garage. Originally, I went there to get some shots for my photography class and decided to grab outfit shots also. The most convenient time for me to get outfit shots is right smack in the middle of the day which, unfortunately, creates very unflattering shadows. I think parking garages might solve this problem - still lots of natural light and no crazy shadows on my face. Now, if only there were a parking garage conveniently located close to my house.

Anyway. This outfit was created out of pure comfort. I wore it to the movies with the boy Friday night, to the movies with my mum Saturday afternoon and to class Monday morning. I switched out the leggings for Monday morning, so it isn't quite as gross as it sounds. Is it? Oh well. The entire outfit is in the hamper now and I promise not to touch it until it has been washed. Deal? Deal.
