I suppose this outfit is a variations of one of the most classic color combinations out there - red, white and blue. It was completely unintentional and I didn't even realize I had done it until I starting writing this post. Bright tomato red tights would have made this outfit a bit too brash for my liking, while the maroon ones keep it from looking like I'm headed to a 4th of July parade six months early. Once again, my leopard flats keep an otherwise very simple outfit from delving into the completely blah territory. I really must think about investing in a new pair considering that I've had these since my senior year of high school and they really are on their last leg.

FROM BAD TO RAD: TAKE ONE

Welcome to the first installment of From Bad to Rad! While compiling my Worst of 2011 post, I realized that I would have liked many (if not all) of the outfits better if I had tweeked small elements of the ensemble. I don't necessarily think any of the outfits are hideous but small things really do make all the difference ... a pop of color here or a proportion change there could have turned something that I felt so-so about into something that I loved. And so this new feature was born.

In this feature, I am going to take an outfit that I wasn't crazy about from last year and try to make it into something that I love. To keep it a little more challenging, I will translate as many elements as possible from the original outfit into the new outfit.

Why Bad?
This is a case of wrong proportions for me. I don't like how the maxi isn't quite long enough to fall over the chunky platforms and the dress seems doesn't seem substantial enough to stand up against the weight of the shoes. The turtleneck with the maxi dress reads matronly to me. However, I DO like the navy/orange color combination and the strips ... perhaps just not the thin variety.

Why Rad?
Sporting a maxi dress and a turtleneck made me feel like I was trying to hide my body so rather than the striped turtleneck, I opted for a less matronly breton striped shirt that revealed a bit of collar bone (scandalous!). Since I really loved the original color combination, I carried that through with the bright orange cardigan. The chunky heels in the original outfit were a deal breaker for me so I knew I'd be going with flats and settled on a leopard print pair to add a little spunk.

I find myself gravitating towards more classic pieces and colors in the winter. I truly think the reasoning behind has a lot to do with the fact that I spent the last 18 years of my life in an academic setting with summers off and winters hitting the books. After a carefree summer, I've always welcomed the returning structure that school brought to my life. I suppose it is the same with clothing ... after a summer filled with breezy dresses, cut off and sandals, I'm ready for more timeless pieces. After all, fall/winter is when we end up buying most of our "classic" investment pieces, is it not?

I've wanted a fur vest for the better part of a year but never found one that I loved until I saw this one from Romwe. Husband was kind enough (read: I sent him the link fifty times to make sure he knew I really wanted it) to get it for me for Christmas. Sticking with my previous statements about classics ... I wanted to keep the outfit pretty simple. I threw in a statement necklace and bright pink lips + nails to brighten it up just a tad.

(PS: I totally love how the pattern in my tights subtly echos the pattern in my skirt. I'm a sucker for details like that.)

When I wear a plaid midi skirt such as this one, I always hover between feeling a little more adult and pulled together and feeling like a teenager going to a sock hop or something of that nature. For me, it is all in the hair. With this outfit, a pony tail made me feel very juvenile but, as soon as I pulled the sucker out, I felt chic. It is funny how such a simple tweak can totally change how you feel about a look.

I have to say that this outfit was completely inspired by Kyla from Blue Collar Catwalk. I thrifted this skirt specifically to "borrow" this outfit from her. She has been killing it lately in blood orange with leopard and she is, quite honestly, the only person I've seen that can rock the overalls thing (with plaid, nonetheless!) without looking like a farmer.

I hope you all have a great weekend! Northwest Pennsylvania has finally gotten a little fluff on the ground so I plan on sipping hot beverages and reading this book.

This cozy sweater is the result of a super amazing haul last week. The same jaunt in which I was looking for a wool coat lead to some really incredible deals. I'd list it all out but, to be completely honest, it is a bit obscene and wordy, i.e. I already tried listing it but it just comes off all showy and ridiculous. Lets just say that I got this sweater, two Kenneth Cole coats and a handful of other really great things (including a Michael Kors leather jacket) ... all for under $100. Now, in my opinion, just two coats for under $100 is a pretty good deal. When you add in all those other things, whew ... lets just say I was on a sale shopping high for two days straight.

It is safe to assume that this sweater has been on my body 90% of the time since I purchased it. It is comfy, warm, has pockets and can disguise a large lunch. I don't see whats not to like about it. Except the fact that it is difficult to wear a coat with but, really, one con up against a whole bunch of pros isn't going to sway the vote on this baby. I am really loving how it looks paired with super slim silhouettes like this body hugging dress. The proportions seem just right.

So, ladies who live in cold climates, how do you deal with chunky sweaters, fur vests and things of the sort that don't want to fit under you winter coats? Is there a trick that I am missing? Or am I doomed to walk around feeling like I'm the Michelin man?

Wine + cognac is one of my favorite color combinations. It is so warm and rich. It always makes me feel pulled together. Add in a few gold accessories and you're done.

I wore this comfy get up to run around all day looking for a new wool coat. You see, I have a great light-weight wool blend trench that I love and, although it is terrific for autumn and spring, it just doesn't cut it for winter. While we've enjoyed and amazingly mild winter so far, I'm fairly certain that winter will not always be so kind and a good wool coat is great for one to have in their arsenal. I don't suggest wearing a donning a shirt with rolled up sleeves to try on no less than a hundred coats. It makes for a lot of unrolling and then rolling back up. The lessons you learn, people, the lessons you learn. One day, I will pass this knowledge down to my daughter and I'm sure she will be forever grateful. Kidding about that last part, of course.

We got snow! And bangs! (Well, not all of Erie got bangs ... just me as far as this little blog is concerned.) Yeah, snow is wet, messy, cold, difficult to drive it ... yadda yadda yadda ... BUT is sure is pretty. If the world is going to look barren, I at least prefer a little sparkly snow to brighten it up a bit.

I've been noticing more and more how, as my closet used to be a year round closet, it just doesn't have the stamina to stand up to consistently cold temperatures. As I said before, in Texas I was able to wear 90% of my closet year round simply by layering. In Erie, is a whole different ball game as thin, summery fabrics just don't have the ability to stand up to the wind coming off the lake.

I have been been loving mixes of neutrals lately. Classic colors that don't require much thought or matching to look pulled together. For some reason, neutrals (especially camel and grey for some reason) equal comfort to me. They don't make me feel down and depressed as I hear so many other people describe them as. Don't get me wrong, I definitely dig shots of color, I just don't necessarily think that a neutral outfit has to make the wearer feel down in the dumps.

We all have outfits that, for whatever reason, we just aren't feelin'. While I definitely don't hate all of these ensembles, I can look back and pick little thing that I would have changed to make me like them more. Isn't that the great thing about blogging? It is documented, so you can always have a peak of your successes. And dare I say ... failures? You can revisit things and tweek a proportion here, a belt here in order to change it into something that you love.

I think it would be fun to go back and redo these outfits the way that I wanted them to look the first time around ... what do you guys think? Are some of them worth a second go? Perhaps there is a monthly feature lurking in the future - From Bad to Rad? Haha, well see!

2011 was an amazing and monumental year for me. I got engaged, made the choice (along with my then fiance) to move back to our home state, attended my first ever blog conference and met a ton of amazing ladies, planned and executed that move, rented our first place on our own, got married, travelled to Maine and back, and began settling into married life quite nicely.

It was the first year in my life that I can honestly say that I took the reins and made my first real, true grown up decisions about what I wanted out of life. That, in and of itself, is exhilarating.

I know that every other style blogger (heck, every other anything blogger) is saying it buuuuuut, for it being December 21st, the weather is insanely mild. Mild and rainy. Very rainy.

Little girl left for Texas yesterday. For one month. This is officially the longest I will have ever been away from her. It was sad. I cried. And I am, by no means, a cryer. I distracted myself from the fact that I won't see my baby for a month with a trip to H&M because we don't have one in Erie. I've never been a huge believer in retail therapy. I find that I only make bad choices when I shop while I'm upset. I simply planned the trip to give myself something to look forward to because I knew I'd be upset after dropping her off. As I expected, I was pretty much indifferent about the shopping trip. Somehow it just isn't as fun to try on clothes when you can't get your four (going on forty) year old's opinion about how they look.

I really love the look of bright red combined with maroon (or wine, I don't really know the difference between the two). In most cases, I've seen it demonstrated with red pants and a maroon top. Since I don't own 1/2 of the equation (the red pants, despite my countless attempts to find a suitable pair) I decided to try and go about it a different way. My mum gave me this ruffle-y scarf for Christmas and it was the perfect springboard for the color combo. I love when certain items can dictate color combinations for you ... it makes it so simple. I donned the wellies out of necessity but, with the bright red zipper, they definitely ended up being the finishing touch to the outfit.

I couldn't resist the color scheme or print of this dress. The fact that it was on sale sealed the deal. Well, for my mum at least since she ended up getting it for me as a Christmas gift.

It came with a matching tie belt but I opted to go a big more undone and casual. This outfit is actually a slightly more dressed down version of one that I wore out to dinner with Husband and little girl. I swapped out the booties from this post for flat boots and threw on a sweater to ward off the chill. While I definitely prefer the outfit with the booties, I simply could not put my feet through that again. They are the devil in the shoe form. If you think I am being dramatic, I will gladly send you the shoes to try out (only half kidding here).

I bought this belt months and months ago while I was thrifting random glassware for the wedding. I am a bit partial to items featuring bows for the simple reason that my husband's name is "Beau" and I think it is cute to be married to a Beau while wearing a bow. Is that silly? I like little things like that because when I look down at my bow belt, I automatically think of the husband at a time that I otherwise might not have been. Other than my wedding ring, a charm necklace and a ring that my best friend got me for my 21st birthday, I don't really wear a lot of sentimental things. But, it is funny how once you make an association as I did with Beau and bows, how easily you are drawn to things emulating that association.

Are there any sentimental pieces that you wear all the time? What about pieces that you just can't pass up when you see them (even if you have multiples)?

Lately I've been drawn to all things southwest inspired, for both my home and my wardrobe. I love the warm, homey feeling that the prints and fabrics evoke. Naturally, when I found this poncho (for $2.50) at a charity shop, I couldn't pass it up. Although it isn't an authentic southwest pattern, the colors and texture still evokes that general vibe. I hesitated for a few seconds simply because I could only think of one way to wear it. In the end, even if I only wear it for traveling and snuggling up at home, I think that $2.50 is a viable investment.

(I use husband to focus and adjust the aperture/shutter speed, then I had the camera over to him to snap the photos. Therefore, I have quite a few photos like this one here.)

This top is not a color palette that I would normally gravitate towards but when you find a cute Michael Kors tank top for $2.00, you buy it and give it a shot. Apparently, it took a while for this top's "shot" to come around because I thrifted it way back in June.

There isn't a whole lot to say about this outfit because, honestly, there wasn't a whole lot of though put into it. I came across this top while I was doing a mini closet clean out and really wanted to wear it. I'm not sure exactly what kept me from pulling it out during the summer, you know, when the weather was much more tank top appropriate. (There is a black long sleeve tee hiding under that tank and blazer. I might be crazy but I'm not insane ... it was cold out!) However, I'm kind of glad I waiting because I really love the print next to the no-nonsense navy blazer.

I can see this skirt becoming a summer staple for me. (Is it bad to talk about a summer staple before there is even snow on the ground? Oh well.) The color -- roarange? red-ish orange? -- is enough to keep a simple outfit from being boring; the elastic waist band and airy fabric are sure to keep me cool and comfy during steamy days.

Back to the present time.

I loved this outfit all by itself, without the coat. I really, really loved it when I slipped in the extra green accents. The cheery color combination was a perfect compliment to the sunny (albeit, cold) weather. I started off the day with these great chunky heeled boots but, since I'm a sissy, I changed into flats to do a little shopping after brunch. You ladies who run errands in heels, my proverbial hat goes off to you. You are my heros.

Sometimes I get into a funk with certain garments. It normally happens when I buy something for a specific purpose or event. I have such a narrow view of it because I plan to wear it a certain way and, for some reason, it really effects the way I see the item when I'm trying to work it in with the rest of my closet. I bought this dress to wear to a relatively low key winter wedding last NYE. I don't think I've worn it since.

Admittedly, this is not that much more adventurous than the last time I wore it but I really like the deep green and wine together (an unintentional ode to Christmas time). The leopard add just enough jazz to keep it from being boring.

As someone who take, edits and posts photos of them-self on a pretty regular basis, I can be pretty critical of photos that are taken of me. However, this one that Husband captured randomly while we were walking around the beach is one of my favorites. Ever. I don't know what it is about it but I really, really love it. Vain? Maybe.

We spent our Thanksgiving holiday much like anyone else ... eating way too much, laughing a ton and generally enjoying family that we don't get to see that much. Oh, and we did it all in Maine. Have you ever been to Maine? I've been a few times but I don't think I fully appreciated it until this trip. It is an absolutely beautiful state. I like the fishing community vibe (side note: my aunt works as a stern-woman on a lobster boat, she's pretty bad ass).

We stopped at Zebs General Store in North Conway, NH to stretch our legs and enjoy a yummy beverage, so good!

Nine times out of ten, when we travel, we drive. I grew up taking long road trips and always really enjoyed being able to see parts of the US that I otherwise wouldn't have gotten to see. That and it is so much cheaper than buying three plane tickets. Obviously, when you are spending 14+ hours in the sitting position, comfort is high on the list. My formula is pretty close to that of everyone else who travels:

layers in neutral colors (husband and I sometimes have different views on what is a comfy temp)

leggings

easy on, easy off shoes (be it sandals or boots, I like to kick my shoes off)

sunnies (because hours and hours in the car can leave you looking a bit haggard)

a happy traveller

We had an absolutely WONDERFUL vacation. We saw so many new and exciting things, got to spend time with family and friends, and had lots of laughs in the car along the way. Definitely a win in my book!

Since the weather has cooled off, we've spend nearly every weekend at our camp about 1 1/2 outside of Erie. We both have family that lives in the area and it is nice to get to spend some downtime with them (and not to have to cook, haha). When we head off the map for the weekend, I like to stick to sturdy basics -- think: wool, denim and flannel. These photos were taken on one of the first really chilly days of the year and was happy to have ths wool sweater to cuddle up in.

We are off to visit my uncle in Maine for Thanksgiving and, incidentally, the area that he lives in is much like visiting our camp. You can bet that I will be wearing lots of outfits like this -- definitely LLBean/Lands End/Eddie Bauer inspired. I've been really craving rustic, outdoorsy type outfits lately. Perhaps it is my impending trip to Maine or maybe I just really love the coziness that comes with snow, a log cabin and a fireplace (all of which is heavly depicted in all three of the above stores catalogues).

Generally speaking, I don't consider items that I buy at Forever 21 to be investment pieces. It is no secret that, most of the time, the quality is sub-par and the clothes are, more than likely, "inspired" by more expensive designs. However, every once in a while I find something I really like. Something that needs to be in my closet.

A few years ago, I bought this jacket on a whim because I liked it. Simple as that ... because I liked it. I didn't plan out how I'd wear it. I bought it with very little thought at all. Yet, when the weather starts cooling off it is always one the first jackets that I reach for. I especially like it for traveling because the black/brown/cream color scheme upgrades simple travel outfits and is really easy to pack around.

I have been much more into black tights lately. I still love the look of colored tights, I'm just not drawn to them as much this year. I tried to make myself want to pair this with some bright red tights but, in the end, good old black won. I rather like the result though. It really allows to skirt to pop, rather than compete, against the rest of the outfit.

I've found myself thrifting a lot more items that need to be altered since I've moved back to Pennsylvania. It might have something to do with living pretty close to my sewing machine wielding Nana. It isn't that I don't want to learn to sew ... because I do. I just haven't had an opportunity to sit down and learn. I am thinking that I am going to make that a priority this winter - I'll take advantage of the short days and spend some time in front of a sewing machine.

Anyway, this skirt needed to be about half the circumference that it was. It also needed to be a smidge longer. Nana took care of both of those little fixes. I, in turn, paired it with some of my favorite things in my closet. An ensemble that includes all of favorite comfort clothes, so to speak, is always a win.

I've been much more inclined to wear jeans as of late and, because of this, I've realize just how lacking my denim collection is. It was kind of shocking to me that I did not own one nice pair of boot cut jeans or one pair of acceptable casual, weekend jeans. Since this has been brought to my attention, I've been on somewhat of a denim hunting mission. I found one boot cut pair to wear with heels, one trouser cut and one straight legged pair (that haven't made it to the blog yet). The only thing I was missing was a boot cut jean that I could wear with flats. I wasn't really actively looking when I stopped into one of my favorite resale shops (that just so happened to be having a 1/2 off of everything sale) and found this Ann Taylor pair for - wait for it - $4.

What are your favorite cuts? Do you shell out big buck for new designer denim or do you like to be thrifty about it?

PS: I got my shoes at the same place as my jeans. I didn't realize it until I typed out the deets of my outfit, but everything I have on it thrifted. I kinda think it is cool when that happens.

After buying this dress, I immediately came home and started pouring though pinterest and my favorite blogs to try to find ways to make the most of it. I came up with a lot of great options, both casual and a little more pulled together. You saw my casual version and I wanted to go a little more pulled together this time around.

I would have never thought to pair leopard with hot pink. I mean, they are both pretty loud on their own and wouldn't they just be too much together? Not so, my friend. I struggled between adding a pink belt or pink blazer and, in the end, went with the blazer. I had to go to the DMV to get my picture and I wanted a relatively neutral picture.

Speaking of DMV photos ... does anybody else think about this? I even thought about what colors would be on the license. Texas was red and blue and, in nearly all of my Texas license photos, I'm wearing white or red. Please tell me I'm not the only person in the world who worries about what their driver's license photos look like? Because, by the scene surveyed at the Erie DMV, not many people (other than the adorable 75 year old women sitting next to me) care. Am I just vain?

Also ... completely unrelated to my outfit, if you are engaged and planning on changing your name once you tie the knot, I seriously suggest that you practice signing your new last name. After 23 years of getting used to signing one name, it was incredibly difficult for me to make my hand sign my new last name. So much so that it took me not one, not two but three times to get it right. Yes, thats right, I signed my maiden name twice in a row before I finally got it right (I'm pretty sure the DMV lady thought I was nuts).

The shape of this dress is much different than I would usually pick up to try on. It is very straight up and down -- a lot more mod than I normally gravitate towards. But, when I tried it on I was pleasantly surprised -- I loved it. It is a pretty thick knit and I've been looking for clothing that will transition well into the ~~colder~~ freezing months. In Texas I could get away with winterizing nearly all of my summer dresses but I have a feeling that I won't be able to make the thinner ones stretch as far during an Erie winter. One thing that I was definitely missing was a winter version of this little black dress.

It is still warm enough to get away with going sans tights and I'm going to take advantage of it while I can. It is so funny because this time last year, I was dying to wear tights and jumped at any chance to wear them (I'm pretty sure I wore them when it was 68 degrees out one day). Since I know tights weather is a pretty long affair in the northeast, I have a slightly different outlook this year and I'm milking the last few days of bare(ish) legs.

Very rarely do I get enamored with a particular item. I tend to covet certain trends, colors, shapes and textures rather than the specific article itself. However, I want this scarf. I want it bad.

When I originally saw one of these photos posted over at The Clothes Horse, I was instantly drawn to the photography. I clicked through to the original link and was blown away by the beauty of the photos. It wasn't until I started clicking through a few of the other photos that I notice now beautiful the scarf was as well. I pinned the photo and have since became obsessed with finding a scarf that is very similar. The problem? I don't know what to call the print. I've found a few options that are similar but not as similar as I'd like.

Wide leg trouser cut jeans have been on my want to try list for quite some time. The fact that I didn't really know how often I would wear them and, therefore, didn't want to drop a bunch on a pair has kept me on the sidelines of the trend. I was browsing Plato's for some nice bootcut jeans and came across these. On a whim, I decided to give them a chance and they ended up being the only pair (out of roughly a billion) that I liked.

Since these photos were taken at the end of the day, I feel like everything I had on kinda lost its shape. That, or maybe this sweater was just a little too loose fitting from the start. With its on-trent southwest inspired print, thick weave and huge pockets (who doesn't love huge pockets?), this sweater coat was impossible to pass up. Especially because it was half off ($7). Yeah, there was pretty much no way I was leaving the store without it even if I only wore it to stay cozy around the house.

Obviously that wasn't the case because, as soon as I got home, I threw together this little outfit. After staying warm and cozy all day long (on the first really chilly, wet day of the season non-the-less), I can't wait to wear this baby more!

In theory, I really love cozy, chunky knits. I like feeling like I'm wearing a big, warm blanket while I'm out and about. It feels like I'm cheating, like I'm in my pjs still but nobody can tell. But, I always feel like I'm toeing the line between bundled chic and just plain dumpy. However, after looking at these pictures, I don't feel as if I look dumpy. Sometimes I really think that photos are a better judge of looks than a mirror. Cher knew what she was talking about.

I've been seeing lots of looks that involve a variety of pins and I love them! I've been on the look out for cheap vintage finds at thrift stores but haven't really been blown away by anything as of late. So, when I saw this little buy at Hobby Lobby while I was picking up some last minute wedding supplies, I had to get it.

For my first day as a married woman, I donned this pin with my new last initial and a comfy outfit that I've been wanting to wear for a while now. I like the junxtaposition of the definitely comfy pieces - sweatshirt and relaxed, rolled jeans - and the more classic pieces - navy blazer (thrifted for $2!) and ballet flats.

I was on the fence about this dress. I've been trying to be absolutely meaningful when adding to my closet. I've been making it a point to really think about how individual items will play with the rest of the things that already reside in my closet. At first thought, a leopard print dress does not strike me as super versatile and I almost put it back on the rack. Three things saved it ... the fabric (that jumpy material that NEVER wrinkles), the absolutely beautiful draping at the waist and the price (on sale).

Once I finally decided to buy it and bring it home, I googled ways to wear it and came away with a ton of ideas. For its debut, I really wanted to go casual. I wore it on my last day as an unmarried woman and (obviously) had a ton of stuff to do, so I needed something warm and comfy to don in order to knock things off my to do list. A wooly sweater, flat boots and tall socks really fit the bill.

PS: Oh my goodness, you guys. I'm married. Wow. More on that later (when I have the photos back and can share the story with the photos).

I am completely guilty of shopping for clothing without a list. You'd think I'd learn by spending way too much money on things that I really didn't need (and probably won't really wear that much) but, sadly, it took the development of a pretty intense budget to open my eyes to the error of my ways. Now, I have a list that is separated into two categories -- items that I think will add to the functionality of my closet for years (read: investment items) and items that I think will inject a little spice into my closet (read: I-won't cry-if-I-don't-find-them items). I keep it on my iPhone and consult it before I walk into any clothing store. While I realize that this is definitely NOT a new concept, I is only that has really helped me get my spending (and closet) under control.

Camel was one of the things on my list. I didn't know in what form I wanted it - dress, coat, pants, sweater - but I knew I wanted to inject a little bit of it into my autumn wardrobe and that I wanted the piece to be as versatile as possible. It came down to this open front sweater and a thinner jersey knit dress and, since we are bordering the winter months, I decided that the sweater was probably the better option.

Along with specific items, I have a lot of ideas, colors and textures on my wish list - thick knits, warm colors, big pockets, camel, burgundy ... and so on. I also picture the weather that is coming up and think about what I'll be doing in it - reading a book, drinking hot cocoa, going on snowy walks - and what feelings I'll want to have from the clothes I'm wearing - mostly just coziness. Even before we knew we were going to be moving to Erie, I admired this umbrella of my Nana's. I thought the comic strip print was just so fun and, quite honestly, I didn't even realize that it said "Erie Times News" on it. When future husband got a job in Erie and we prepared to move, my Nana gave me boxfuls upon boxfuls of things that you just don't really think of when you're moving into a new place (salad spinner? check. cupcake pans? check. bunch of other stuff? check.) and amidst those little house hold things was this umbrella. It wasn't until that point that I actually realized that it was an Erie Times umbrella but, once I did, I thought it was absolutely perfect to use around my new city.

Anyway. I read a post on Apartment Therapy a few days ago about clashing greens and how the author always likes how it looks even when two shades really shouldn't go together. I kind of feel the same way and I didn't even realize it until I read it. I am always wanting to pair one green scarf or another with my olive green cargo jacket and when I slipped into this trench, I instantly knew that it needed a little dose of neon green to go along with it. Isn't it funny how inspiration can be found pretty much anywhere? What is the oddest place you find inspiration? I'm curious.

Other than that ... here are a few other tidbits:

1. I wore this coat in my very first outfit post.
2. My scarf is wrinkled. I was going for a disheveled look. Ok, I was lazy and didn't want to iron a stupid scarf.
3. My jeans have stirrups. You will never, ever (ever ever ever ever) see them because they were bough specifically for the ease of slipping into boots. Not as an 80s fashion statement.
4. Wednesday's photos and todays photos were taken on consecutive days. Notice how many more leaves are on the ground in today when compared to Wednesday's. Holy cow, I think autumn is coming.

I stand on the outside of the professional world so I always feel like a fraud when I don one with a more conservative looking outfit. Although, I have been itching for one in a bright color -- orange, or maybe pink -- and then one in a classic navy. Which is strange because, up until a few weeks ago, blazers were something that I could take or leave. I suppose the beginning of autumn has gotten me thinking about the seasonal basics that my closet has and I'm really thinking that a good quality navy blazer and a quirky colored blazer could transition across at least three of the four seasons.

I've had this skirt hanging in my closet since last March when I attended the Swapaholics Swap at TxSCC. I kept feeling like I should do something out of the box with it yet, I didn't know what. Sometimes I get caught up in wanting to make a piece of clothing stand out and I overlook good obvious ways to wear it. So, today, I went obvious. I didn't branch out into any other colors. Nothing groundbreaking over here. But, sometimes not groundbreaking is just as good as groundbreaking.

I took the grey from the skirt and ran with it. Okay, well, walked with it at least. I spent the first part of the day sans tights and I liked the outfit better that way but, in the end, I was too chilly (why the heck is every store I go in absolutely sub zero?). While I prefer the outfit without the tights, I can't say I dislike it with them. I love me some colored tights but there is something about black opaque ones that make me feel glamourous.

I am in love with the print of this shirt! From far away I doesn't look like much but, when you get close, it actually had that prettiest colors printed into those flowers. This jacket was perfect for bringing out the pinks and maroons in the blouse. I really love them paired together.

In all honesty, I definitely would have liked this better without the socks but, a.) it was chilly when I left the house and I don't like cold ankles and, b.) these shoes are slightly uncomfortable without socks. So, there ya have it. This is now the majority of my sartorial decisions are made - based on temperature and what makes my shoes as comfortable as they can be. I'm pretty simple that way, haha.

You know those people ... the ones who are all, like, even if I'm working from home I still have to get dressed or else I can't be productive ... those ones? My hat is off to those people but I cannot say that I am one of them. There is something about being at home (especially without company) that instantly pulls me upstairs and into my sweatpants. Seriously, it is like a magnetic force or something. Being a stay at home mom, I spend a couple days a week running errands and doing fun things with little girl and then I spend a couple days a week staying home to do less fun things ... like laundry. I find it difficult to get dressed for real those days (I say 'for real' because I do get dressed, it is just normally into yoga pants and a tee shirt). Because I am a personal style blogger in addition to a stay at home mom, this has created a little bit of inner turmoil for myself. I feel like I should be posting every day and because of that, even one the days when it would be better suited to wear yoga pants, I find something to throw on. This leads to the opposite of creativity and good content. Which, is so not what I want for my blog. All of that being said, instead of strapping myself down to a solid five days of fabulous outfits, I am going to shoot for a good three days because, no matter how hard I try, I will never be one of those incredible ladies that has the will power to get themselves dressed when they are working (or cleaning, or cooking, or whatever) from home.

Now that all that is taken care of ... do you guys ever feel like the world of blogging has completely opened your eyes to new things that the majority of the (non-blogging and/or non-fashion-y?) world isn't getting yet? Take this shirt and skirt, for example -- I think they look great together. We have a little pattern mixing, a little maxi and a little statement necklace going on, nothing super fancy but cool and casual. Or not? Because I got a lot of silly stares while I was wearing this. I didn't even think twice about them going together when I left the house. Though, I don't exactly live in a fashion mecca (not complaining because I love my city) so I should be a little more used to silly stares.

Today was the most beautiful day - sunny and crisp. It really did feel like the beginning of fall. It is so exciting to get to watch the seasons change bit by bit.

Before we left Texas I bought a bunch of tights on super sale and then promptly forgot about them (it was 98 degrees when we left, after all). These pretty wine colored ones were among the forgotten. When I started unpacking my fall paraphernalia, I came across them and decided that they would play perfectly with this autumn toned skirt. I briefly considered pairing this with my flat cognac boots but decided that I may be jumping the gun a bit. The way I see it, I have a good 4-5 months coming up that are going to make boots a necessity rather than a option. I don't want my boots to wear out their welcome before they are even needed.

I got so many wedding related things done today - wine selection, hair appointments, baby girl's dress and bakery selections. All baby girl and I did all day long was run, run, run. We are both absolutely exhausted ... like, boxed mac n' cheese for dinner exhausted.

These are my crazy pants, er shorts. I bought them for three reasons -- patterned shorts were "in" for spring/summer, neon made a little comeback and they were on a clearance rack at Plato's closet. Most of my outfits are dictated by what is in or what is out but when it comes to trends I'd like to try out, I always head for some sort of resale shop or thrift store. I can try things out without feeling guilty if it ends up not being my thing.

I threw these shorts into my suitcase at the last minute. I have only worn them once on the blog and I wanted to give them another shot at summer styling before heading into tights weather. I didn't really plan anything else to go with them, which is where the plain black tee came in. Since it was kinda boring (well, as kinda boring as multi-color, striped shorts can be), I loaded on my chunky TIKKR watch and a bunch of bracelets. I like the funky effect of the crazy colored shorts with all the arm candy and how the black top really let the colors speak for themselves.

In my mind, olive is definitely a neutral and goes with basically everything. Isn't it funny how the longer you are exposed to a certain color, the more you find to match with it? Is that just me? So, while this tank and these shorts don't absolutely match, I really like how the colors in the top play off of the muted green of the shorts. I think the kinda mismatched tank and shorts lend a more casual vibe to the outfit. I topped it off with the black cardi because this tank is so billowy and I wanted a slightly slimmer silhouette.

We spend the day visiting some thrift stores in the area to gather supplies for wedding center pieces. I am really excited to actually translate my vision for the wedding into reality. It is also really fun for me to gather the things via thrift stores and yard sales because I never know exactly what I'm going to find, which forces me to find unique uses for items.

PS: Get it -- olive juice, olive? Did you ever play that game when you were younger? You mouth "olive juice" and it looks like "I love you" and it is really funny because you were in third grade and saying "I love you" is always funny in third grade. No? Well, oh well.

You guys, I've been spoiled. I have gotten used to having future husband there to snap my photos before he goes to work. It has been nice - a five minute ordeal from beginning to end. We make a pretty good team. However, future husband has been working a different shift this week which means that he doesn't have time to take them before work and I'm too impatient to wait around until he gets home from work. Therefore, these were taken with my handy dandy tripod and remote.

I am feeling quite overwhelmed by having my entire closet at my disposal. Isn't that what everyone says? It is also the transitional season rut - at the beginning of the day it is pretty chilly and by afternoon it has warmed up considerably. I have a really hard time when things aren't clear cut. I like to know that it is definitely going to be hot ... or cold ... or medium ... or whatever.

Originally, I had this on with a pair of boot cut jeans but the proportions just didn't seem right. It came across as almost sloppy to me. I decided that skinny jeans were the way to go and I did just that.

If you're in the northeast (or watch the weather, for that matter) you have to know that these photos were not taken today but, rather, last week when the mercury level was a bit higher. Since these were taken a few days ago, I have very little to say about them. It was hot and I needed something to run some errand in. The dress seems a little blah without the brown to break it up. That is pretty much the entire though process involved in this outfit.

It seems like so long ago since these pictures were taken when, in reality, it was only a few days ago. Weather changes tend to do that, don't they? A chilly breeze and lower humidity make summer seem like ages ago. I'm ready to head into the season of tall boots, cozy sweaters and warm beverages but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't miss throwing on a sundress and heading out the door.

Don't you hate it when you really love your outfit and you're all pumped to take photo only to realize that you're wearing your old rubble flip flops in them instead of the shoes you actually intended to wear? And don't you really, really hate it when your fiance doesn't have time to retake them because he has to shoot off to work? Wow, thats a lot of hate. Not to mention that it sounds wayyy more dramatic than it actually was. It went more like this (as I was reviewing the photos on my camera screen):

I had completely forgotten about this maxi until I pulled it out of a suit case a few weeks ago. When I got this tank, I knew that I needed to pair it with this skirt. I love that, while the skirt is purple, it still plays out as a neutral against the bright colors of the skirt. It allows the colors to still pop while still speaking for itself. Plus, isn't that draping great?

I've been seeing a lot of crew neck sweatshirts online and it kind of piqued my interest. They are less frumpy than the ones speckled with sports logos (don't get me wrong, I definitely have my favorite ratty Steelers hoodie but I just don't wear it as part of an actual outfit often) and I actually feel put together when I'm wearing it. A super casual put together, but put together all the same.

This scarf has been looped around the hanger that this dress was occupying for quite some time. Since I've decided that summer is definitely beginning to say goodbye, I thought I should pull this out before it requires tights and a jacket to be weather appropriate.

What I really love about prints is that they can inspire color combinations that I wouldn't have considered otherwise. I know that, technically speaking, blue and orange go together like peanut butter and jelly because they are complementary colors and all that jazz yet I wouldn't gravitate toward the color combination if they weren't together in the scarf. Since both colors are pretty bold, I went super simple with the rest of the outfit - no jewelry, just some little metallic sandals.

I've talked about it before but, sometimes I have a hard time deciding exactly how I want to wear things. Since I am running outta summer, I decided to maximize my latest purchase and wear it two days in a row. Actually, if we're being honest, I am seriously considering wearing the top a third way tomorrow. Gross? Maybe. Real life? Totally.

I really love how the colors pop against this cream skirt. Granted, I also consider blue jeans a neutral but the colors seem so much more alive next to the lighter neutral of the skirt. I wanted to keep it simple and really let the colors speak for themselves, so I slipped on some black flats and some dangly purple earrings and called it a morning. Bada bing, bada boom.

Prepare yourself for a very wordy post about my thoughts on the weather. Yes, the weather.

My dad's girlfriend's daughter goes back to school next week so her and her mom came to Erie for a little back to school shopping. I really didn't want to buy anything until I finished getting all of my things unpacked and organized but this top caught my eye. I went back and forth on buying it because a.) it was full price and, even at $12, I kind of hate paying full price for things; and b.) it is definitely a summer piece and, lets face it, autumn is knocking at our door right now. In the end, I couldn't say no (obviously) because I loved the colors and pattern so much.

The change of seasons is so different in Pennsylvania. Maybe it is because they have more distinct changes than Texas does or maybe it just feels that way because I know it is coming but, either way, I can definitely feel things beginning to turn. When I stepped outside this morning the wind was blowing leaves around like crazy and, even though it was a warm breeze, it definitely signaled to me that autumn is coming pretty quickly. I've got such mixed feeling about this. In Texas, I always jumped the gun on autumn because it didn't come around until the beginning of November usually. So, mid-September I would be dying for it and decide to start dressing the part even though it was still 80 degrees outside. However, I know that this year it will be different because autumn is going to come much, much more quickly. And, after autumn, comes winter and with winter comes the realization that I will not be able to don airy tanks (by themselves, anyway) for a good six months. I don't mean to sound negative about it at all because, to be completely honest, I am like a little kid when it comes to piles of leaves and snow (blame it on ten years of living in a climate that doesn't allow for much snow). I just find myself being a little more mindful and thankful for the last few weeks of warm weather rather than cursing them as I would have done in Texas.

In so many posts I find myself discussing or wanting to discuss the weather. I know this can get boring and monotonous but, in all reality, the weather has SO much to do with this particular genre of blogs. Even more than that is the fact that the weather hugely impacts the way I feel. Some people love the heat and, therefore, really despise winter. On the flip side, some people really dislike the heat and live for chilly temps. What I like about where I live now is knowing that another season is coming. I know, without fail, that the leaves will fall and the snow will come. I also know that the snow will melt eventually, the flowers will bloom and summer will come. It is knowing the change is always just around the corner that I really enjoy.

Disclaimer: I don't mean to sound down on Texas (and all of the other hot states) because I don't feel that way at all. I just happen to be very bad at dealing with the kind of heat that they experience.

We had friends in town from Texas over the weekend and one of the things I was most excited to show them about my new town is how beautiful the Erie bay is. I get a view of it every day when I walk the pup and I can honestly say it hasn't disappointed yet. While I love the idea of the beach, I am definitely a lake girl at heart. I grew up swimming, camping and boating on lakes and so there is something about cool, fresh water that I really, really love. Erie gets a lot of flack for the amount of snow it gets in the winter (6th snowiest city in the US) but, I'll take the snow and cold all winter in order to get the beautiful sunsets all spring and summer.

I knew we'd be spending a good portion of the day down by the bay and I wanted to bring in some nautical accents. I decided that the outfit needed a little spicing up, hence the leopard flats. It was great for exploring downtown with friends for the day.

Today baby girl and I went on a little wedding related adventure. This wedding has been quite the adventure. I thrifted this cropped(ish) sweater a few weeks ago with the idea of wearing it with a maxi dress. However, while unpacking these two garments were laying side by side and I decided that, not only was that ultra convenient, but it also was pretty cute.

I had to include baby girl in this post because she looked pretty darn cute today as well. She ventured into a little pattern mixing territory today. She picked her shoes all by herself because 'there are butterflies on my shirt and I need butterflies on my shoes' - she is a logical one, that girl.

Saturday was just the kind of day I needed - we went to lunch with some of our married friends, then to the beach for some fun in the sun and then to cook out with those same friends. It was really nice to just be able to hang out and make plans for the day at our leisure.

I needed a low fuss outfit to throw on for dinner after the beach. I was feeling pretty relaxed and didn't want to deal with accessories or makeup or blow drying my hair. Isn't that what summer is all about? Speaking of summer, I am getting the distinct feeling that it is on its way out. Don't get me wrong, the days are still steamy but the mornings and nights are definitely developing a bit of a chill. I can't say I'm not super excited because I definitely am, this will be my first real autumn and winter in nearly 10 years.

We get the keys to our new place tomorrow evening! *key big sigh of relief*

Unfortunately, future husband works over time all day Saturday and Sunday. Voluntary over time but still, its overtime and that means that baby girl and I won't get to spend very much of the weekend with him. Still, it is really exciting to have a whole new place to make our own.

It has been insanely humid as of late. Normally I don't mind it - I have straight hair so I don't generally have to worry about frizzies and I don't wear enough make-up to worry about it melting off - but this is the kind of humidity that makes you feel like you need to shower again immediately up on walking outside.

This color combination is one I've worn before and really liked. As much as I would have loved to have worn this dress sans cinching, I decided last minute that it just wasn't all that flattering. On the way out the door I grabbed this hot pink belt and, while it might not have maximized airflow, it definitely looked more appealing to me.

Do I look tired in these pictures? I assure you that I am (was?). I get worn out really quickly in the heat. I get worn out even more quickly when I'm going from the hot, hot heat outside to the cool, cool ac inside. I wasn't build for back to back extremes, I suppose.

I think black gets a hard time of it in the summer and I get it - it isn't very exciting when the world is teeming with color. That being said, sometimes I like to comfort of really simple color (shade?) combinations. Black and silver (and denim) did it for me today. I did take it one step up and wear this outfit with black ballet flats rather than my rubber flip flops. Unfortunately, when I got home I slipped out of them and into these babies - a girl's feet gotta breathe - and I forgot to switch back before taking these pictures. You get the idea, right?

This shirt is perfect for the super steamy couple of days we've been having lately - light colored and light weigh, these are my only two necessities when getting dressed when it is hot and humid outside. While I know that dresses are much breezier on hot days, I find myself much more drawn to shorts when the temperatures soar. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that I can run around and make myself comfortable without having to worry about maintaining my ladylike-ness (I'm pretty sure I made that word up). What I mean is ... that I can sit indian style on the floor with my baby girl and my doggie and not have to worry about giving random people an eye full. Yes, these are my priorities. MY SPIEL

This bathing suit was one of the best things I've ever scored at Ross. It is a Jantzen Original and retailed for $90. I picked it (and its black twin) up at ross for $20 a piece. It is the most comfortable bathing suit I've ever worn - it doesn't dig in, constrict, fall down, or anything of the sort. I feel super confident in it.

Before I had my daughter, I wore a bikini and, although I didn't feel badly about myself in it, I spent most of my time tugging it back into place and making sure it stayed put. After my pregnancy, my body had definitely changed and, to some extent, so had my personality and modesty level. I don't know if this was a conscious choice or just a gradual side effect of having a baby and growing up. I wore my old bikini a few times after I became a mom and while my friends and family assured me that it looked fine, I never felt great in it. I kind of just started avoiding situations that involved beachwear (a feat when I lived in a state that had summer for 8 out of 12 months). Finally, when baby girl started getting a little older and wanting to go to the pool, I realized I was being a dummy. I found a few really cute one pieces and haven't looked back.

This is just my little personal turmoil with swimwear, parenthood and body image. I see ladies that rock a bikini all through pregnancy (and after) and I am always completely blow away by the beauty of it. As with anything, being comfortable and feeling great is the MOST important thing of all. So, rock on bikini/tankini/one-piece/whatever wearing mom (and all other ladies, naturally).

NEW TO NEON

I've never really been super crazy about the neon trend. I'm always at a loss when it comes to styling it. Even after buying these shorts, I still only ever paired them with neutrals rather than pulling out the bright colors. Then, the other day when I wore this, I had the intense desire to add a little jolt of color to the outfit. I had seen some neon skinny belts at Target and decided that a neon skinny belt was exactly what my closet was missing. After settling on pink I headed to the check out, a path that just happened to lead me right past the clearance accessories section (totally on accident, obviously) and I saw two Calypso St. Barth for Target scarves (neon green and orange) marked down from $20 to $5. How do you pass that up? For someone who is a self-proclaimed non-neon dresser, I left Target with, not one, but three new neon items.

Recently it came to my attention that future husband has never been to a drive-in movie. This is shocking to me because drive-in movies were pretty commonplace in my childhood. We were in my hometown on a mini vacation to show him around and visit lots of people so we decided that the drive-in definitely had to make it on to our to-do list. We rounded up a bunch of people and went to go see Horrible Bosses and Bad Teacher (both pretty funny). It is always exciting going to the drive-in because it is so different than going to a movie theater. It really made me miss baby girl (she is in Texas for two weeks visiting her dad's side of the family) because I know she would have had SO much fun going (obviously we wouldn't have watched Horrible Bosses and Bad Teacher if she went, I'm not a completely irresponsible mother - hehe).

I like to be comfy when I watch movies and nighttime in PA tends to get a little chilly, even in the summer, so leggings + oversize tee + jean jacket + throw blanket (not pictured, of course) was the winning equation for this evening. I added this little bicycle pin that I picked up at a thrift store in my hometown to spruce up an otherwise vanilla outfit. Isn't it so cute?

This post is a testament to how much photography (and a good pair of wedges) can influence how I ultimately end up feeling about an outfit. On other notes - my fiancee starts his new job at General Electric today! How awesome is that?! Over 5000 people interviewed for 100 jobs and he was one of the 100 that got hired. It is a really, really great opportunity for him and I'm pretty darn proud. Ok, end small gushing session.

Sometimes a girl just wants a dress, shoes and pretty bracelets. In PA, it isn't really necessary to crank up the AC until mid-July (um, now) and we haven't exactly gotten around to it so it is pretty steamy in my house. Which equates to rather simple ensembles. I did feel a little plain in this, so I decided to pin up the back of my dress to create a sort of bustle. It was subtle but I really liked the extra detail that it added.

FIRE FLY

I have found some really great scarves at thrift stores lately. They are just so easy to tie on and add some color to an otherwise rather bland outfit. My only problem is that all of the ones that I've been collecting from thrift stores as of late are the same length and I'm having trouble figuring out a way to wear them that isn't a carbon copy of this one.

So, if you follow me on Twitter you know that my fiancee had a hand in helping to put out a fire that potentially could have damaged an apartment building. He is a volunteer firefighter and does this kinda stuff all the time but it was especially cool since we are on vacation and he is nowhere near his fire station. It was a mattress that had been pulled into an alley and lit on fire. The mattress was pretty much fully engulfed when we saw it. It was pretty late and everyone in the building was sleeping so if we hadn't of been in the right place at the right time, it definitely could have been a lot worse. Mr. Fiancee can be pretty handy at times.

It was pretty diminished by the time I snap this photo.

Then the fire truck showed up.

And they sprayed water on the already put out fire.

A GYPSY FEELING

This skirt used to be a dress but it was one of those pesky empire waisted things (see previous post) and not one that was easily remedied with an elastic waisted belt. That and the straps always cut into my shoulders so it kinda hurt to wear it for extended periods of time. It just wasn’t working as a dress anymore but I loved the print and didn’t want to part with it just yet. What is a style blogger to do? Turn it into a skirt, of course.

I love the way maxi skirts make me feel when I wear them - carefree, mostly. I feel always want to pile on a ton of bangles, throw my hair up in a turban thingy and spend the day doing what gypsies do (whatever that is). Alas, I did not do any of those things. I apartment hunted instead. It did not go well, per se. It is pretty darn difficult to find a three bedroom apartment, that allows dogs, that isn’t in the ghetto. I actually starting to budge on the ghetto part ... it isn’t SO bad if your stairs are falling apart, is it? How would a gypsy feel about it? Kidding, kidding.

I’ve been having a really hard time writing posts lately. I’ve attempted this one four or five times and it just isn’t working out. Get dressed, take pictures of yourself, post pictures of yourself and describe what you felt/wore/saw/thought that day. Easy, right? Apparently not.

My mum gave me this dress. I love it but I normally wouldn’t wear it because it has an empire waist and I prefer things that sit at my natural waist because they’re easier for me to belt and, therefore (in my mind), more versatile. That being said, this dress is probably one of the lightest, coolest things which makes it pretty convenient for hot humid summers. When the sun slips behind the trees it is perfect with a light cardigan.

Oh and as it turns out, it is pretty easy to belt at an empire waist when you use an elastic backed belt ... it grabs at the fabric. Duh, Desiree, duh.

SUMMER FESTIVAL

Over the weekend we went to a fun little festival. This shirt screams summer festival to me - thin, flow-y with cute detail. Easy, breezy ... literally. Minimal accessorizing and I was out the door. I decided halfway through the day that I liked the shorts better when they weren't rolled up ... so you all get a picture of both ways.

I would have thought it made me look squat ... and maybe it does but I love it anyway. I felt awesome in this all day long. I kept twirling around and pretending I was a ballerina because midi skirts + ballet flats = ballerina. Obviously.

SECOND DAY DRESS

Sometimes it is really hard for me to decide how I want to wear a certain piece. When I picked out the pink dress from yesterday's post, I thought of at least three ways to wear it (mostly centering around fun color combos). Normally I would just pick one and shove the other two in the back of my mind for a 'later date,' which never really works out because when I shove things to the back of my mind I nearly always forget about them.

Side note: A smarter person would write him/her-self a note so they didn't forget things like this. I am either too busy or too lazy ... I'll let you draw your own conclusions, haha. Back to the story.

Anyway, instead of shoving the outfits back in my mind, I wore the dress two days in a row. I rather liked it both ways. This tank is probably one of my favorite things in my closet. I just think the pattern is so much fun. I love how the dress and the cardi are both pulled together by the colors in the tank.

The next time you see this dress, it will be paired with red. I should probably go write that down now ...

When I was wearing this peach cardi on Sunday, I kept admiring how it looked next to my hot pink nails. Which, admittedly, sounds really conceited - haha. I don't have a lot of pink in my closet and after buying this dress, I'm not sure why. I think it is SO pretty and surprisingly versatile.

I've gotta keep this short because baby girl has started preschool and it is time to go pick her up. I can't believe she is in preschool ... she is getting so big!

Keeping with the casual vibe that has been radiating from my outfits, I give you my normal Sunday morning attire (assuming I get out my PJs at all).

This scarf was more of a necessary afterthought than a planned part of the outfit. It ended up being pretty chilly and I needed a little extra fabric to keep warm. I actually really ended up liking how the orange and green looked together. If nothing else ... having half your accessories still packed encourages fun color combinations.

How awesome is this shirt? I read Wuthering Heights every single winter. Months ago I sent my honey a link to Out of Print Clothing and told him that Wuthering Heights and The Great Gatsby would make a really fun birthday present. Then, with the impending move and all, I promptly forgot that I had mentioned it to him. I was so excited when I opened them on my birthday!

I've worn this one a few times in very similar ways but this was the first time that I actually got a chance to grab some photos. This is the direction I've been dressing lately ... super casual with very little accessorizing. I can't honestly say if this is out of necessity or desire - probably a little of both. See, we are renovating the house that we are moving into and, as these things tend to do, it is taking longer than expected. Therefore, with the craziness going on with that, I am all about being super simple in the wardrobe department.

Today is my birthday! Happy birthday to, well, me! I don't have any cute me-holding-a-cupcake photos for you all right this moment because this is Thursday and I'm scheduling this post due to less than stellar dial up internet. The cupcake holding photos will come later ... I'm sure.

So after my whiny I-don't-like-these-photos post yesterday, I felt I needed follow up with some photos that I did enjoy, like these one (duh). I was uncertain about these shorts when I bought them (for $4, since you asked) because they have this little pleat detail in the front of them. The pleat is what drew me to them but then I wasn't sure if it was flattering or not, so I went back and forth in the dressing room. Then I kicked myself and thought Desiree, they are from Gap, cost $4 and they are olive green - you love olive green. Moral of the story? If it is $4 then you should probably get it especially if it is from Gap and is olive green.

Anyway, I paired it with this turquoise necklace because it is one of the few pieces of jewelry that I have unpacked. Turns out, I kinda like olive green and turquoise together.

This darn cold has decided to stick around. Yep, something nasty has taken root in my lungs and I'm still nursing it. It has made things like, oh I don't know - unpacking ... getting dressed ... breathing - rather difficult. I headed back to the doc today to see if they could fix me up. She sent me home with two prescriptions and said I might survive after all.

Outfits like this have been my saving grace lately - tank, shorts, sandals, done. I'm not normally a fan of destroyed denim but I liked how these shorts fit so I went with it. One good thing about it is that with all the moving/renovating that is going on, I don't have to worry about getting anything on them or ripping them. Stuff like that will just enhance the overall look. Right? Right.

This is probably the most blogworthy outfit I've ever thrown together. HA. This outfit saw me through cleaning, reorganizing, and a very wet four-wheeler ride. The biggest lesson I learned from this outfit? I cannot pull of the turban look. The next biggest lesson I learned from this outfit? Rain boots are the only acceptable footwear when you live on a dirt road where it has been raining for the past 30 days.

Well. I am officially in Pennsylvania. I am officially unloaded. I am officially sick. Which means that I am NOT officially unpacked. Also, it means that I am not officially a Pennsylvania style blogger since I have yet to do any outfit shots since I arrived. I blame it on the sickness that has rooted itself in my throat and refuses to leave. That, and the fact that I have approximately two shirt, a pair of shorts and some pjs unpacked. I love me some cute pjs, so perhaps I should do some shots of those? I kid, I kid.

This photo was taken a few days before we left Texas. It just so happens that this tank is one of my two shirts and these shorts are my only bottoms, haha.

I wish I had gotten more photos of the outfit because I really loved it. It was definitely easy summer attire. These are going to be my summer staples, I'm sure of it. Well, they will be my summer staples if it ever stops raining in my home state. If not, wellies and umbrellas are sure to make an appearance.

PIPE DREAM

Things are still crazy. I'm knocking things off my school to-do list left and right but, things are still crazy on the home front. I suspect they will stay that way for the majority of the summer. Although, hopefully they will relax a little when we are no longer on a moving deadline. Pipe dream, yes?

Otherwise ... good new - my 50mm lens arrived on Wednesday! It has taken a bit of adjusting to get used to the fixed focal length but I am l-o-v-i-n-g it. I'm pretty sure it is the best thing that has ever walked, er shipped, into my life (you know, behind baby girl and fiancee and family and all that, hehe). I mean, it is amazing - beautiful - fantastic.

Ok, enough of that. I tend to feel strange when I wear black in the spring/summer. I feel like I need to be light and airy but, while honestly, this dress is the most comfortable thing I have that isn't packed and I wanted to be comfortable. I actually am really happy with the super minimal styling - just a dress and some sandals. Isn't that was spring time is about? I feel like this outfit will be popping up regularly in the next few months.

If you follow me on Twitter, you know that I'm swamped with end of semester goodness (aka horrible-ness), stress from our impending move, oh and planning a wedding. Hence, the silence on the blog front - I am behind on responding to comments, posting and reading (my Bloglovin' is out of control). Truth be told, I have a very limited closet right now and I'm so stressed that I really don't feel like donning anything other than a t-shirts and jeans. This leaves me feeling pretty blah and stressed that I'm not cranking out current posts, let alone posts to schedule for when I'll be out of commission due to the move and the whole not having Internet for a while thing (scary).

The whole things has made me feel very negative and I really dislike that feeling. Then I gave myself a hard slap and though, Desiree you've got a lot going on right now ... if you have time to blog, you have time to blog either way, I'm sure the Internet will get on fine without you. Um, ain't that the truth?

So this is my apology for, well, having to take care of in person things. While I miss posting, reading and commenting ... I know that there are big things going on in real time that need my attention. So I'm giving myself a hall pass for a bit - if it happens, it happens.

On a more positive note ... my 50mm f/1.4 lens FINALLY shipped today. I should have it in my grubby little hand by Wednesday evening, just in time to finish up my final photography project of the semester. I'm pretty pumped.

EASTER BONNET

I wore this to an Easter egg hunt over the weekend. Baby girl wore a pretty flowered dress that had brown and pink in it, so I decided to coordinate. Yes, I am one of those mothers - I match with my daughter. Not all the time, but if I know there are going to be photo opportunities, I definitely make an effort to match.

Isn't this hat great? My dear fiancee bought it for me for Easter. And by bough it for me for Easter I mean I picked it out, he took it to the checkout to pay for it, then brought it back to me in the Payless bag and said, "Happy Easter, dear." Nonetheless, isn't it wonderful. It is such a great floppy hat without being too floppy. Last summer, I realized that I don't have the head to pull off a fedora (either that or I just haven't found the right fedora) so I usually stick to cloche or these semi-floppy styles. Can you tell I'm up with my hat terminology? Not.

OH, and just for the record ... today, it was 15 degrees warmer in Pennsylvania than it was in Texas. What is that all about? I think PA is getting ready for me to move back. Hehe.

LIGHTENING THE LOAD

Holy cow, people. I am moving in 16 days.

Moving is hard work. Who knew? I feel like there is so much left to do. It is a little frustrating because, while I'd like to, I can't pack up everything because there is still a lot of things we'll need in the next two weeks. Yesterday, we spent most of the day taking apart all of baby girl's large toys and getting them ready to pack. I thought she would be really upset but she handled it so well - such a big girl! We left a handful of her favorite books and toys out so that she isn't completely bored for the next few weeks.

I haven't ever made a big move like this in my adult life before so it is a little exciting. I love the idea of being able to edit our belongings down to what we really love and need. I've gotten rid of so much junk that doesn't serve a purpose. I've gone through all of baby girl's toys and donated the ones that she doesn't use and gotten rid of the broken ones. It has definitely lightened the load a little bit.

Anyway ... the outfit. This was easy and that is pretty much what I aim for on weekends (who am I kidding, I aim for easy every day of the week). I thrifted this top last week. I've been dying for the very similar JCrew one but, since its been sold out for forever, I've been looking for a substitute. I have seen this shirt floating around the blogosphere and I lucked out to find it for $1.49. It is so light - perfect for Spring.

IMPATIENCE

This outfit is a direct example of my impatience. I had this outfit listed out on a post it note and, rather than pants, it was paired with cut off shorts and brown sandals. But, when the weather said 55 and rainy, I decided to adapt the outfit to work for the current conditions. As it turns out, I didn't really need to adapt because it warmed up nicely.

Plan on seeing said unworn outfit in the near future...as soon as I find some great brown sandals that I like. Any suggestions (flat, dark brown, easy on/easy off but not flip flops)? I know what I want because I had them in silver last year but, for the life of me, I can't find anything I'm liking this year. Boo.

ELECTRIC

I've been intrigued by color blocking for a while now. I ways imagine utilizing the trend with separates though. You know, an awesome bright pencil skirt/skinny jeans/trousers (I'm thinking cobalt or red) with an equally fun bright top (turquoise, preferably) and nude accessories. I haven't spent much time thinking about it or anything though, haha...ok yes I have.

When I threw this cobalt dress on the other day, it was a little too chilly to go without a cardi. I reached for my go-to black one but, hanging right next to it, I found this bright pink number. And a color blocked outfit was born.

I like it. Don't get me wrong...I still want my dream outfit noted above but, I like it.

SURPRISE

I love how, from the front, this outfit says I'm cute but nothing too crazy or out of control. Then, from the back, it is like oh hey there, you thought I was boring but you didn't wait to see my fun surprise stripes.

I was definitely going for an all neutral look here but, looking back on it, I think I would have liked the whole thing better with a bright scarf or colorful pair of shoes. Other than that, this outfit was pretty much the comfiest thing in the world. This Target tank is awesome (I'm not sure if it is still in stores, I snagged mine at Plato's closet) is such a great summer tank - super silky in the front and the softest cotton ever in the back. I also like that it isn't your run of the mill, plain tank.

In the last few months, I have become increasingly aware of the lack of separates inhabiting my closet. I have lots of plain tanks and tees but hardly any unique or printed blouse-type tops. I've made it a point to be a little more intentional about buying these things. It is so easy for me want to buy dresses because, well, they're easy. But, lately, I've been leaning more towards pairing separates.
